The problem with decentralized storage is that it will always be at a premium to Centralized cloud solutions. How much that premium would be will depend, but unless you have some really sensitive data, it makes no sense to go with decentralized solution over a regular trusted cloud provider.

Sounds like a massive scam to me, but then I don't know a lot about this stuff.

I mined chia when it first came out and built my own miner. You needed a very powerful CPU (ideally AMD), HIGH ram, and ideally M.2 SSDs. I also had 64 TB...it was NOT worth it. There were connectivity issues, plotting issues, UHG! This makes it easier especially if they have already plotted the drives for you. All the expansion kits are though are external hard drives so you have no say in the drives BUT if you tear off the cover, you may be able to resell the HDDs of Chia continues to tank...my suggestion: Go through the process of building your own PC for mining Chia...you will learn alot more, have an actual PC that can then be resold

Chia has done nothing but tank since shortly after it's short lived peak that happened for a bit after it launch. It's impressive it's held onto this much market cap. I think this could work way way way, out in the future when cyrpto as a whole has actually been tested, integrated and accepted and competition is needed, but it suffers from the same problem as so many as projects. It seeks to solve the same 1-3 problems as almost every other project.
