They completely missed the fact the main 1,000 lb. bomb was on a U-shaped trapeze that rotated the bomb away from the propeller during the dive.
Talk about ignored the KEY feature of the Douglas SBD's.

The stupidity of using the audio of stuka's trumpet on the documentary even though the dauntless didn't install any of them zzz

They aimed the entire plane at the target! At Midway, James Best held his dive to under 800 feet!!! At that speed, he barely had time to pull out of his dive!
No other dive bomber in the world dived as steep as the Dauntless! Not even its replacement. Many pilots preferred the Dauntless over the Helldiver!

An excellent account of the Battle of Midway is given in the book Miracle at Midway by Gordon W Prague.

I truly hate these videos where the narrator emphasises every word. It just becomes meaningless.

My father was a rear gunner in a Navy dive bomber during WWII. The rear gunner was also the radio man. He didn't talk much about this experience other than to tell me it was terrifying.

The scariest part of this is not dropping the bomb it's pulling out of the Dive against 5 Gs or something

My grandfather's first cousin flew a dauntless. He told my grandfather there's a fine art to dive-bombing. If you did it right, you were pinned against the back of your seat. If you did it wrong, you were basically completely weightless with your belts pulling on your shoulders. It had to do with how you entered your dive. Wish I could have talked to him myself. The man died of cancer in the 1960s.

The Germans and the Japanese also used Stukas and other planes in this naval bombing role, with great success. I know less about the other belligerents.

What I've always found fascinating is that the Japanese Navy back then had so much pride that they had to put a HUGE flag/symbol on the decks of carriers that made a perfect target 🎯🎯

Dive bombing increased the accuracy but decreased range where as bomb tossing increased range but decreased accuracy

Thank You SC for the dynamics of Dauntless Duke dive bombing and dropping torpedos. Especially the effect it had on our pilots and gunners. There but by the grace of God they prevailed at Midway and won the war for the Pacific.

Tom Eversole mentioned near the end of the video was a torpedo bomber pilot. He was close friends with Dusty Kleiss who sank multiple ships at Midway. On Eversole's last mission, he and Kleiss exchanged looks knowing Eversole was almost surely going to die needlessly due to the inefficiency of the torpedoes he was carrying. Unfortunately, he was right. He never returned. Read the book by Kleiss. Very interesting and informative.
