Had my i4 M50 for 3 weeks. I chose the standard 19” wheels as they make a big difference on range compared to the 20” wheels. So far, happy with the range I’m getting. Did a run round the M25 to Guildford yesterday (170 mile round trip) and was getting 3 miles / kWh with the temp in single figures.

Anyone whos driven taycan, i4 and model 3 would agree that model 3 is not in this league, its too poor.
All the efficiency benefits tesla offers are easily beaten by quality upperhand porsche and bmw has and makes you feel on daily basis.

Great review. Here in Australia the Taycan 4S is $206k and $124k for i4 M50 vs Model 3P $87k. Massive, massive price difference comparing these cars.

Real world yes the BMW is the fastest 0-100 kmt, the Porsche has the greatest top speed, and the tesla has the poorest build quality, but it makes cart sounds.....😂

not a fan of those 3D graphs, hard to read while moving, especially with that added depth. would definitely recommend to stick with regular 2D lines instead. insightful video nonetheless, thanks!

The question remains if those chargers share some energy at some point as all 3 of them could pull 200kw+ and end up using 600kw at the time so some of them might charge slower!
I had this happen when someone connected and the charging speed went down!

I use to like Tesla cars but thinking about it for the money you don't get a lot of options. For that kind of money I want a lot features and options like high end cars offers, like Porsche's, Benz, BMW, Audi.

As a long term BMW M owner, I am really disappointed with the EV offerings by BMW. They seem like they’re really lagging behind the competition and asking too much for what they’ve come up with. The BMW app is terrible in comparison to Tesla. It takes minutes not seconds to do anything. Something I see as quite important with EVs these days.

The BMW i4 (M50) also has the ability to pre-heat (or cool) the battery so that you can reach thr highest possible charging speeds - to use it plan the charging stops in the car's navigation. My experience shows that it will allow for much faster charging speeds and the cost of range is limited.

As a man who has had the privilege to test drive all three of these amazing cars I have to say for me personally I preferred the BMW i4 M50 to the Porsche Taycan and the Tesla Model 3. The BMW felt so much more natural I ended up purchasing one myself and I don’t regret it. It isn’t the fastest by any means but it felt more comfortable and natural to me than the other two. My BMW i4 M50 is amazing I bought it 2 months ago and so far no real problems but it’s manufactured by the Germans what do you expect 👌

This is a superb video, with excellent operational and buying advice. Please please do something similar with the i4 40, which obviously doesn’t have the performance but is more efficient. I want to order one I think and would really value your advice.
In terms of production and presentation this is way up there with the best.

You don't mention the fact that the BMW i4 actually allows using ~81kw of the 83.9kw capacity. Other manufacturers keep as much a 20% hidden reserve of the battery's advertised total capacity. While it may not charge as fast, it charges fast enough and you can actually use more of the capacity than competitors. Your time charging per usable capacity is better.

Also, in all these cars it's also only recommended that you use DC fast-charging 1-3x per week or it can damage the life of the batteries. The primary use case is still overnight charging at home.

Getting the meter to "100%" quicker is far from the most important consideration.

I went with a Model 3 LR. That said, there wasn’t a choice, I can’t afford the other two lol. Doesn’t matter though, if I were buying an EV it wouldn’t be something other than a Tesla tbh. If I had much more money I just would’ve bought a Model S. I’m sure the Porsche is amazing though.

really good comparison 👍. I drive a Taycan 4S and its nice to see how it compares with the rivals. In straight line speed there is not much between these cars but there are more differences elsewhere. One note though, the Taycan is not normally equipped with 21" inch wheels. You should have used max 20" wheels, it makes a big difference in range. Taycans standard wheels are 19".

It feels like BMW is holding back either to be safe from an engineering point of view (since this is their first serious EV) or because they want to give more on the next Face-lift i4.... typical BMW if you are asking me... I still like the BMW vs the Tesla. The Tesla network is opening soon for non-Teslas so that will balance things a lot.

Did you reach the Charger with activated Navigation in the Taycan?! Because then the Porsche is heating the battery actively and you would see a much higher charging speed!

Great video. I did some sums based on the range figures on the BMW website, if you'd had 19" wheels rather than the 20's on the test car, you would have got another 30 odd miles range. However (again based on the numbers on the BMW website) 18" wheels would only give 1 mile better range than the 19's ! But who's going to put 18" wheels on that car anyway ! ;-)

always nice to hear that your Tesla Model 3 is doing well. My Tesla Model 3 SR has done 60.000 km with an average use of just 14.4 kWh /100km (max speed normally 110 km/h and often 103 km/hr because of local speedlimits).

Loses of around 20% for Porsche comparing summer versus winter. It is ludicrous.
I understand there are loses due to atmospheric conditions but then the amount provided by the manufactures should be more realistic.
Almost 60 miles lost due to temperature. What will be the same difference in a petrol engine, probably next to nothing.

This technology is far from mature and they are wanting to implement it worldwide asking users to pay a premium to be the beta users.

EVs are only going to be a success in certain markets (nordics mainly) because they are rich countries and also inn the premium segment where the users do not care because they probably have 2 or 3 cars. But in the average people this will not be a product I would like to buy
