If your GTK theme doesn't have icons for the programs you use in the right size,
you can just use them at the available size and set the max_icon_size to scale them down.
For example, to get nm-applet icons working at 16x16 in dunst, I appended the following to my icon_path variable ( requires hicolor-icon-theme package):
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/

Then, I set my max_icon_size:
max_icon_size=16

Adwaita seems to have icons in weird places so I would also recommend
/usr/share/icons/Adwaita/16x16/legacy/

This one gave me display brightness icons (I think?).

Dunst doesn't seem to support some or all of Adwaita's 'symbolic' icons.

If I am not mistaken, I believe you forgot to mention that one needs to autostart the notification daemon as well.
This is how I start it on my xprofile/xinitrc...

/usr/lib/notification-daemon-1.0/notification-daemon &

There is one thing that bothers me a bit, why do you usually close and save your vim file using ':wq!' when you could only do ':wq'?
Well, of course it isn't something really important, but I just want to know.

Hi Brodie. I wan a notification system that only show some symbol or letter in the top bar (if possible) for alerting me but not show anything more or at most showing only the number of pending notifications and queue all the messages silently for reading later at the console with an specific command. Any solution you know? Thanks.

When you install it with dnf it is started automatically at login or boot time.
It is not done with systemd or /etc/init.d script.
It seems to be started by dbus somehow.

Do you like to have desktop notifications on your system or do you think that they're just distracting if you use them, let me know down below which notification server you're running.
