It’s simple, everything that happened on the island actually happened and things continued to happen after jacks death which is why Hurley tells Ben he was a good #2. The only thing that was purgatory was the universe that you see in the last 2ish episodes where they all start running into each other.

Great reaction. The scenes in the off track betting place remind me of when I was young and my mother dragged me along so that she could place her bet on horse X. The betting parlor was green and orange. I used to take a golf pencil and draw on the back of the betting forms while I waited. She never gambled with the housekeeping money we always had food and the bills were always paid.

It's funny how you characterize Squid Game as "Hunger Games-like", when both of them are like Battle Royale, a japanese movie from 2000. Goes to show how unknown Battle Royale is, even though the genre for settings like Hunger Games and Squid Game is called Battle Royale.
Squid Game is actually influenced by Battle Royale heavily and was actually first written about 4-5 years after BR had released.
