I miss pre "classic" WoW. So basically Cataclysm WoW I guess. Rewards were shit and leveling up was a grind, but it was fun. Now it feels like hand holding.
Getting 1k gold back then was a damn achievement and a miracle. Now you can get it in 10 mins.

3 years later and the quest rewards in retail is still the same. They only give you enough gold for fast travel exspenses.

Its funny when I finally played wow classic I was super hyped to get a green with some stats. =)

I was happier with my first green item in classic than my first epic in retail

Let's say something:
The Azeroth champion defeated all Deathwing childs, an elemental god (2 times), the blood god, a old gods, Illidan the betrayer, Kil Jaeden (2 times), an old god (again) The Lich King, Deathwing, helped the Horde to replace Garrosh, came back in time and defeated Mannoroth and Archimonde, came back in the present and defeated Gul'Dan and stopped the Burning Legion, defeated another old god and Azshara, killed another freakin' old god, and recently defeated the Jailer.

He saved TOO MANY times Azeroth, Draenor and the Shadowlands, he's the most important person in the world, but he still Anduin or Sylvanas's b!tch.

I have to admit I’ve never really liked being any kind of “Chosen One” in games. The Dragonborn in Skyrim, Champion of Azeroth, the “”Herald of Andraste-the only one who can close rifts in Dragon Age Inquisition. Even Hydalyn’s Blessing of the light in FF14.

I much prefer it when you’re an ordinary person who chooses to be the hero. The protagonists of Fallout 3, NV and 4 were all ordinary people who got thrust into unusual situations. Similar for the Warden and Hawke in the DA games. Even in Oblivion it’s vague enough you can get away with saying you’re a normal merc/adventurer even if the Divines did see what you’d become.

Now I don’t mind if you gain a reputation as your deeds become more notable. I’m still not entirely sure what the Blessing of Light actually does other than shield you from Ultimate magic. The Echo seems separate and more useful since it lets us resist tempering and lets us see memories sometimes. (I reinforce that because my WoL still saw memories in the Crystal Tower and to be allowed to start Heavensward so the magic Midgardsormr did was still totally in effect.) Still I admit I’d have liked to have been the normal unknown adventurer for quite a bit longer in FF14. I still expanded that time by doing a lot of side quests tho.

Ive noticed that too. Since Woltk the player is no longer a nameless grunt fighting night elves for timber, but a champion. Everyone is a champion... The dude with several world first, another with several rank1s, and a dude with full greens... How is one supposed to become a champion when everyone is from the get go?

In Classic is more like: "Oh, I see, you are a mage. Here these are the rewards - leather with agility and mail with strength, pick wisely mage"

Lol, when you think about it from the game's perspective.... Your dude is litterally a living god with all the things they have done over 16 years, and still still haven't died or age. I mean, it's straight up acknowledged that you can't die several times. You rubbed elbows with litteral Space Jesus to imprison Space Satan. Everyone would want your babies, and it makes sense.

Post Shadowlands should reset this completely, you should be a nobody again. Blizzard won't though, because they will be perfectly content adding things to their shop to improve the gameplay, instead of making the game better at a level that actually counts.

I feel like people are taking the wrong message of this and whining about "But I dont want to be the champion ~!!" when it was about the shitty quest rewards.
