As a 42 year old PC gamer I caught myself wondering.......Why did he use such slow DDR5 up against such excellent CAS 14 DDR4? Its like putting a GDM-FW900 up against first generation LCD technology. Thats not a perfect example, but you get what I mean. The best DDR5 kits available today would destroy 3200mhz CL14 DDR4. I found this video to be a bit strange.

Thank you for this. now i will stick with ddr4 on my first pc build and I am just gonna use it for gaming only.

I'm a bit late here, but I have one question. Almost all Intel CPUs show maximum RAM frequency DDR4 3200MHz. Is there any problem in using an XMP Profile for 3600MHz on an I5 processor? And why the fuck are ther RAMkits with over 4000MHz when all the CPUs just support 3200 max.?

Basically, there is no reason to upgrade and spend more money for minuscule gains and more drama with driver updates and new gen compatibility.

It's just like PCIe 3.0 & PCie 4.0, even they double the Speed.
Only significant fps gain .

I was building a new pc with 12 generation Intel. . i had 2 options either ddr4 or ddr5 but i noticed that i am paying 170$ more for the ddr5 between motherboard and rams which was a big nono because using that money on the gpu/cpu is way better and more performance ..

don't do yourself a disservice, get ddr5.
it is like choosing ddr3 or ddr4 couple years ago.
difference will grow to day and night when software take advantage of the speed

Starting to see DDR5 5200 and 5600 CL28 28-34-34-89 Kits wondering if the lower CL and decent speed would be good as you no longer will get that latency issue with DDR5 curious for both AMD and intel

Not sure how valid the $$ v performance argument is; its Dec 2022 and I got a Z690 D5 board for $50 and scored a 32GB D5 PC5600 set for $120. At these prices it doesn't make sense to stick with DDR4.

Why wouldn't you put what memory and timings you used in the beginning of the video? I think that is very important information.

Is Z-Skills 4x8gb DDR4 -3000htz usable on a i9 12900k build? Get the feeling 3200htz is the minimium requirement speed. (Tia...for anyone replying).

My favorite thing about the new Intel Skus supporting both DDR4 and DDR5.. they only make like 2 DDR4 boards and they're complete garbage. Everyone is all lickin' on DDR5 like it's the hot new ticket. I mean I guess by now, maybe it's comparable but.. not when this vid came out.

you should of done fortnite as a test. people dont realise but fortnite has the most strain on a pc. the graphics arent major, but its hugely reliant on ram. the building aspect of the game will make an a $3000 pc run 70 fps max on lowest graphics and high performance settings and thats just normal play, dont even get me started on late game.. combination of already built builds, 30 people in a tiny circle surrounded in a huge storm that destroys fps, while they all edit and reset builds at the same time as fast as they can. even a $7000 pc stuggles to get above 100fps at that time. all on lowest graphics and highest performance settings possible.

Interesting test would be DDR4 3200MTs/CL16 vs DDR5 6400MTs/CL32. Latency on both will be similar and it would show more realistic uplift between generations and it seems that there are already kits that have comparable price at $300/64GB.
In this 9 month old comparison latency on 4800MTs/CL38 DDR5 is around 30% worse than 3200MTs/CL14, so there's no real mystery why DDR5 struggles.

you are biased towards ddr5, whenever ddr4 wins you say it's not significant, but whenever ddr5 wins you shut up and don't mention the same fact.

If you ask me the games should had been test in high/ultra.
Similar to GPUs the RAM and VRAM find their best use with high texture/resolutions specially if bandwidth is prioritize over latency (OC RAM Kits).

Don’t ya love listening to a guy who acts as an authority, for 20 minutes, doing a comparative analysis- and he never once tests the actual thing that he’s comparing.

1. DDR5 can provide up to 128GB PER STICK/DIMM SLOT. 4X that of the largest DDR4.
2. A DDR5 4800 module is 87% better than a DDR4 3200. Any DDR4 above 3200 is marketed to operate outside the safe maximums of the chip - and is without warranty.

I can't recall the test exactly but someone tested DDR5 4800 vs 6000 and showed a pretty big difference on the 12900K. Since 5800-6000 seems to be the slightly higher end like a 3200mhz kit is above spec for DDR4 I would love to see a comparison of the DDR5 5200 vs 6000 at least and maybe higher. If the results continued to be similar I think waiting till DDR5 drops before purchasing a kit next upgrade would be a better call and just get a D4 board.
