I got my bachelors from UMGC and landed a job in 6 months. You are absolutely correct that in a years time your choice will change. I went from a jr. network engineer to a jr. linux admin and I love every second of it now. two years ago I barley knew what linux even was, now it's my full-time job. very informitive video sir.

Thanks for your video. I work for the Fed gov and want to get my MS in Cybersecurity. I have not worked in this field at all but served in the USMC for 11 years. I'd be in the Policy track of the degree program and wanted to get your thoughts on this. It is from the Ivy.

I have a cyber security degree and I was offered a six figure salary, just on my degree alone, right from the start of my graduation from college with my newly earned Bachelor of Science degree in Cybersecurity/Information Assurance.

Damn, I wish I would have heard this advice 20 years ago.

Let's put it simply. You can learn Cyber security from a kid in some small city in India for free. Even Computer Engineering students can take Cyber security as a side subject and still be professionals in both fields.

I will graduate with a bachelor's degree in information technology next year but I`m thinking to get a Masters's degree in computer engineering since I`m interested in computer components and hardware in general, what would you recommend?

I mean this as no offense, but this is kind of bad advice. Not every engineering school has a decent computer program. Science on the other hand, there are actualyl a ton of a great computer science schools. A lot of peopel are hiring cyber security like.. IDK if it's covid.. but 2020 is the decade of cyber war. So much to consider this video didn't help.

Having high Degrees combined with knowledge will give privilege over others. I will think about your advise after my Doctorate . My cousin is in Africa Working there while teaching in universities in USA and doing many others stuff all round the world . He would not be able to do this if he only has a Bs but he has 2 Masters and a Doctorate. So please stop asking certain questions when it comes to your future and what you intend to do . Many people fail because they did not listen to their inner voice .

hey eli what about computer information systems vs computer science which is more profitable for the person who wants to go the security route but also wants to know the core basics of computers without negating much of that core knowledge base kind of like what they do with cyber security.?

Whoever asked this question, I hope you listened to his advice!! Not everyone will tell you the truth, most people just say things you want to hear (marketing gimmicks, etc.). Wish someone had told me this before I did my Master's degree. This stuff is invaluable; the early 20s are very precious, and earning a solid work experience during these years will pay back over the years even though it might not seem like a lucrative option at the time. Accept those minimum wages/internships, whatever comes your way and GET INTO THE FIELD!! Keep build your resumé, but never stop learning either!!

Like he said, the best option is to take up a Master's degree while working, so you have a secure job and looks great on your resumé too!! Even better if you manage to make your employer sponsor your tuition (partly or in full), etc. That's the safest way to go imo. Academia is mostly just a booming business these days :( so if you REALLY want to get an extraordinary learning experience and develop bankable connections/grow your network while doing it, your options are VERY LIMITED (I mean in single digits ;)). Anyone reading this, wish you all the best in your future endeavors!! Carpé Diem!!!

its cybersecurity not cyber crime,..many things come under cyber security than cyber crime.

Don't compare a cyber security master's to a degree in criminal justice. In a cyber security degree you actually learn skills that make you useful to society.

Eli, if there is any single thing that I can appreciate most in all of the videos I have seen you do is sharing your real-life wisdom. That example of the advice the cop gave you after pulling you over is one of those many eye-opening experiences that many of us would never have thought about.
