Theres a reason the whole 'asking permission' thing has been a solid norm for nearly the entire multi-thousand year history of marriage itself...

See you aren't asking permission to marry her, you are asking permission to crash her family....to show up at every birthday, Christmas, thanksgiving, 4th of july, funeral, every family crisis, reunions, etc.... That's the biggest imposition a person can ever make, and while you dont need to actually ask permission, you damn well better make sure you have tht permission if you'll be dealing with hell for the rest of your life.

It leaves you with only one option then--isolating her from all her family and friends so you don't have like 30 people she trusts with her life aggressively undermining your marriage (and they will succeed in time)......but then if you do that you will be considered abusive and controlling by literally everyone on earth.
