Also, Letchkov was very underrated... He should have been in the best XI of the tournament instead of Balakov..

If it wasn't for the corrupted refs (who they did not give 2 CRYSTAL CLEAR PENALTIES to Bulgaria) the Bulgarians would have faced Brazil in the final and would have won at least the silver medal.. Bulgaria were robbed for sure.

There was a penalty for Bulgaria but the referee was for Italy and we didn’t win

I remember that when Emil kostadinov was going to score I think baggio touched the ball with hand and there was no penalty

there was a handball from italy that the reffer did not give to bulgaria so techinicaly italy did not beat bulgaria but that a whole other story

Unfortunately for them, there was nothing to do with THAT Baggio, he was unstoppable at his best (pity he was 50% for the final match, otherwise Italy would've won against Brazil.)

I'm a Nigerian but the 1994 Bulgarian FIFA world cup team did so excellent by passing Germany.I got shocked when I heard the score.

I still remember the Hristo Stoichkov free kick goal against Germany ! He was simply superb!

These Bulgarian players were legends, literally all household names in Bulgaria still, almost 30 years later. Sadly, Bulgaria's national team has been a complete embarrassment since this generation of players, with the singular exception of Berbatov. I don't know what happened... They haven't qualified to a World Cup since 1998 and keep getting worse it seems, they literally got beat by Kosovo a couple of years ago. Even with the new expanded World Cup format, I don't see them qualifying in 2026. What exactly was it that produced such outstanding players in the late 80s and early 90s that culminated in reaching 4th place in 1994, and what's different now that it can't happen again... would love to know the answer to that one.

that loss to sweden.... most embarrassing thing i have seen! even if they did accomplish so much to get to the world cup, and do well to reach semi finals, losing to sweden in such absolutely atrocious disgusting manner, makes me sick, and i wish they didnt get any medals at all. WHO GETS MEDALS FOR 4TH PLACE ANYWAY??

Stoickhov was a pure legend.

I love how they gave out bronze medals to the Bulgarians despite losing the play-off for third!. Kennet Anderson once said that he saw the Bulgarians coming up to the podium, but did not notice exactly why, as he was too busy celebrating with his Sweden team mates. He was later shown video footage and was like “I’m still learning so much from my experiences at that tournament”.

Such fantastic times and as a 13 year old, I fell in love with your country and now I am finally visiting next year in Sofia!❤️❤️❤️
