Basically, Hindu men and women wore heavy gold, silver and bronze jewelry in the past starting from their childhood, there was no stigma to it until the advent of Abrahamic influences or so, when men wore lesser jewelry and the baggage of this fell wholly on women. Nowadays, more Hindu men and women are increasingly wearing gold and silver, it is considered auspicious and an investment in traditional Hindu culture.
If a woman chooses not to wear, then it is ok too. It really depends on the woman or man.
