I want to make a lich who's basically the same personality as Trazyn the Infinite from Warhammer 40 000. I love that kleptomanic metal bastard.

Liches are one of some favorite villains in D&D. I hope one day we can see a return to them being comically threatening, as sometimes I feel like people have forgotten how truly terrifying a Lich encounter is supposed to be.

i see lichs all over the place in the fantasy world. there are lichs in final fantasy , although they are nowhere near as cool. one thing i didnt know was that there were good lichs. thats an interesting concept i might want to use.

I had a high level PC that turned Lich hunter. He didn’t destroy them though. He collected phylacteries and through them the lich’s that they were bound to. The more he collected the better he got at finding them. Nothing like forcing a cosmically evil monster to do good.

I liked the idea of the litch. However i changed a lot about them in my current campaing.

Simce there are lots of ways to live long this is not the reason why they became litches.

In my current world spells need energy. This usually comes from the enviroment. If you use the enviroment to power your spells uou have to follow the laws of magic.

But you can also use souls as an energy source. This allows you to ignore the rules of magic.

But while you have your own soul studying and practising soul magic is extremly difficult. So in their mindless pursude for power and knowledge litches removed their own soul to practice the ultimate form of magic.

Working up a lich that has no idea he is undead, but being kept alive by a necromancer God surreptitiously. And growing more agitated each century unable find sweet solace in death.

After playing a bit of bg3 (which sucks btw and doesn't even hold a candle to Diablo) I decided to check out some Dungeons with Dragons lore videos and I'm rly disappointed. It's basically watered-down Warcraft lore and worse in every possible way. Like can't these guys come up with something original? Cause they just ripped off Warcraft lore and made it worse.

I never did understand why any mage who could cast Magic Jar would bother to become a Lich, the spell as written in first edition was basically permanent with the destruction of the body it was cast from (it lasted until you returned to your body, or the one you were wearing when you cast it) and automatically pulls you back into the jar if the body you're currently possessing dies, from where you can possess another.

Cast Magic Jar and hop into another body (a Simulacrum or captive) destroy your original body and the spell duration never ends .. alternatively hop into the other body destroy the Magic Jar, cast the spell again hop into your original body and destroy the one you cast the second magic jar while in .. either method as the spell description was written results in the spell becoming permanent and effective body hopping immortality with a fully living body (or rather a series of them) rather than a rotting skeletal corpse.

You might want to protect the Magic Jar with a Glassteel spell and other enchantments.

So you get a living breathing body rather than a corpse.

Which makes interacting with others a lot easier.

If dragons get stronger the older they get then does that mean a Draco lich power unlimited?

"Never nerf the Lich."
Agreed. Things like the Lich are simply too legendary to nerf. Unless you are running a Lich that is a complete moron, but in that case I feel like they would screw up the process or the Adventurers would get to the Would-Be-Lich before they can complete the potion or ritual.
