I was on the USS Independence assigned to VF-41 (CVA-62) during West Pac '65. Watched F4's and A6's (among other aircraft take off for Viet Nam. Like one comment said, some of these aircraft came back with bullet holes in them.

DANNY GLOVER WAS VERY COOL, HE WOULD COME SIT IN THE SHOP WITH US, & JUST SHOOT THE BREEZE, OR EAR CHOW WITH US. WILLEM DEFOE WAS A BIT OF A D***K, BUT DID HAVE HIS MOMENTS. FOR ANY OF YOU CONSIDERING THE MILITARY LIFE & WANT TO WORK ON JETS, YOU WANT THE NAVY, DEFINITELY NOT THE AIR FORCE. WORKING ON THE FLIGHT DECK WITH ENGINES TURNING HELO ROTORS DOING THE SAME IT IS MOST ASSUREDLY THE WAY TO GO. NOTHING LIKE BEING ON THE FLIGHT DECK AT NIGHT IT'S STARS ALL AROUND YOU. YOU CANNOT GET THAT ON THE BEACH. OUR HOME BASE WAS IN OAK HARBOR WASHINGTON, AND YOU WILL MAKE FRIENDS FOR LIFE. SHOUT TO MY FELLOW BOOMERS!!

I loved this movie and I’ve seen it 20 times. As far as Vietnam movies go, though..BAT21 gets my # 1 vote. It was not only riveting, but it actually happened.

I could have really admired Danny Glover for his role in this movie except for he's a total left-winger. I wonder why he agreed to act as a U.S. Navy 0-5 Commander Intruder light bomber pilot.
