MRE's Understanding the date code (10 year old MRE)

I checked some codes on some MRES that I know were made in late 90s early 2000s on the date code converter, but because the first number is a number one it thinks they were manufactured in 2021

This is the same as the way the eggs are dated in the grocery store the only difference is it only shows the day of the year for the eggs

MRE GMO processed food.

I am soooo confused. I have 7249, after you said the first number is the year, I thought 2007, but then you hit me with 0 being 2010 and then I realized, how do you know it wasn't 2000? So I checked the converter and 7249 is not 2007 but 2017. What am I missing here? If you didn't say yours was 2009 in the beginning, I would think maybe 2019.

So how long can these actually last? What if im a 5 year survivor in a nuclear apocalypse and find an expired mre? Would it still be ok?

The code. You want to put in is the last three numbers with a letter after as in the chicken number is 9350C put in 350C and show mfg date of 2013 which matches what the outer case date is.

That code date checker is bull it says my ranger bar was manufactured in 2018 code 9296 and my chicken with tomatoes and feta cheese was made in 2019 these MRE ‘s were from the same bunch that when to Iraq. And the Warnock co didn’t set up shop in my basement. These MRE ‘s have been there for many years they are so old the heaters wont work anymore.

I just opened and ate a 13 year old Marinara & Meatballs MRE. The Marinara & Meatballs, cheese pretzels, and wheat snack bread were still ok. The cheese spread did not still look good and I wasn't brave enough to try it. I don't like peanuts so I didn't open those.
