Pretty good pronounciation man ;)
ОтветитьA serious encrypted messenger needs a Blackberry Keyboard
ОтветитьPrice per spec, this absolutely makes no sense whatsoever, it souds like a creative way to rip off people 😅 because there is new rising niche of minimalist / dumb phones
Ответитьtouchscreens arent that bad for phones (I threw up a little just typing that). On screen keyboards with swipe are miles better than the old days of hitting a button multiple times. I just wish there were more that supported a minimal OS and more older smartphone style hardware in between this and a new phone. For any manufactures listening, I'd like a small screen (4.5" diagonal would be fine), thickness should be bellow 20mm but striving for thin is bad, some sort of rear facing camera, a 3.5mm jack, a removable SD card, a removable battery, and possibly user-upgradable modem like the liberty phone. GPS for navigation is a nice to have I suppose. Apps should be as minimal as possible, a calculator, an end to end messaging client, email, web browser, and possibly an authenticator. No google services at all, no phoning home usage statistics, just insert sim card and have fun.
ОтветитьThere shouldn't be cameras...
ОтветитьIt’s now possible to link Pigeon to signal on your desktop, which is great. Perhaps release a new, short video, showing the setup process? It’s easy with the QR Code decoder. I’m using it and I’m enjoying it.
ОтветитьDo the batteries still suck on them?
ОтветитьI would totally buy one of these if I could afford it. The Signal thing doesn't matter to me because I don't even know anyone who uses Signal. I just want a "dumb phone" that actually will work on modern mobile networks, and isn't some cheap junk from China. It's also a nice bonus that the Punkt provides wifi tethering, which is something you didn't mention in the video but I think is a major selling point. The idea is that if you want to go on the Internet you can, but it's a deliberate act which you sit down and engage in, not something just sending you notifications in your pocket 24/7.
Personally I can't really justify paying that much right now, but I don't think the price is unfair at all, I'm sure it costs a ton to manufacture a phone with a completely custom design on such a small scale using high quality parts.
I wonder what the smartest dumb phone is.
ОтветитьLove it brother God bless you
ОтветитьEven my Nokia 105 can do better than that 😌
ОтветитьIs there t9 word?
ОтветитьHi Techlore, thanks for the clear video pointing out the poignant current issue with MP02, next to its merits. In my own interest: would you say it is more likely that Punkt will introduce a software workaround - or that they will release an MP03, with camera, that enables Signal Desktop support. Thanks in advance!
ОтветитьDoes it allow you to dictate text?
ОтветитьDidn't they stop supporting the older version of MP02 ?
Ответитьnumbers keyboard 😂😂 not a good idea
ОтветитьI'm hopeful that we see more innovation in these modern dumb phones.
One form-factor I'd be really interested in seeing is a dual-screen slab phone, where you have a reflective e-ink top screen for displaying distraction-free content, and a monochrome OLED touch screen on the bottom that serves as the primary input mechanism. I feel like this would strike the best balance between a phone minimizes distractions at the hardware, but is still just as capable at performing the "necessary" functions of a phone.
can never get this pigeon messenger to work. not reliable when travelling
ОтветитьI'd like to know if it has something like T9 dictionary & predictive text?
Also does it have a dual SIM version & removable battery?
a cheap as dirt camera dongole would be an easy implimentation.
ОтветитьReally liked the design till you turned it around. Would have liked it if it were a lil bit thinner.
ОтветитьThe work around is an led camera
ОтветитьIn india, 30$ is enough for a dumb phone
ОтветитьPrice is unrealistic
ОтветитьLove the design and color! Reminds me of the nextbit robin.
Hate everything else :^)
Thanks for the shoutout! Hoping that the new Punkt update for pigeon will fix some of these issues and help tons for stability. Appreciate hearing your thoughts on the matter!
ОтветитьHave you tried the GreenTouch Mindful phone? It might be right up your ally in terms of a stripped down modern phone.
ОтветитьI'm really into this wave of "smart dumbphones" like this, the light phone 2, etc. I think a lot of people would be interested in this kind of stuff, but the biggest obstacle to the space is the price tags on these things. The value straight up sucks lol. If over the course of years they can iterate and bring the prices down I think we can start to see a serious legitimate market for these kinds of phones!
ОтветитьWhy not making a dumb phone with qwerty physical keyboard?
ОтветитьThey could maybe add a scanner or a small camera at the top of the phone which would make it interesting to see
ОтветитьIf it had a rear camera so you can use Signal on multiple devices, and you can take basic photos (it's the memory or utility that counts, not the quality), the MP02 would be a very compelling option.
ОтветитьWith that keyboard you can type without looking at phone.
Ответитьshould have used session instead of signal, that way we could link devices with the 13 word seed phrase instead of cameras and phone numbers. also I dont understand why this phone has a Bluetooth connection, defeats the whole purpose of it.
ОтветитьWhen this guy recommended using a Bluetooth keyboard with this phone I immediately unsubscribed.
ОтветитьI want a phone of "average intelligence" that has email, camera, nice size keyboard (hardware of screen version) but limited apps and no browser. LightPhone gets closer but on-screen keyboard is not workable for my big fingers. I currently use Screen Time function of Iphone to get this but of course all the privacy issues come with that device.
Ответитьi'm all for small startups and self made privacy focussed stuff, but this is just a bad product and nowhere near worth $399
Ответитьwith all of those drawbacks, just save the money and get any 10$ dumbphone if you are willing to accept those, you can accept not having signal either for 290$ less
ОтветитьI want this so bad! But can't get over the fact that my full-fledged Samsung smartphone that has been working reliably for 3 years now cost $200.
ОтветитьI bought 2 Pixel 6a phones off swappa in Mint condition for roughly $200 - $220(because of shipping and tax) each. $300 for a dumb phone is just dumb.
ОтветитьJust too expensive
ОтветитьA dock that allows a small removable usb camera to be plugged in on top would be good.
ОтветитьI know a lot of hom boyz in the crip, who would gladly pay that kinda money for a phone like that. 🙂
Ответитьif the OS isn't open source, can you really trust it to be privacy respecting?
ОтветитьI actually like it has no camera.
Other issues and price are dealbreaker, otherwise I would get it as second phone.
I'm using the MP02 for four months as my main and only Phone. The only thing really annoying me is the Signal Problem you mentioned. But it's totally doable daily driving a dumbphone like this, but keep in mind that you need let some conveniences go! This Device broke my Smartphone addiction and I don't want to give it back. I just wish the updates were more frequent and they fix Signal.
ОтветитьI'm interested in this and I had no idea it existed, thanks Henry! I was dreading having to get a larger phone when my iPhone 13 mini dies. My sister and I are always looking for more private means of communicating even if it's just with each other. This would be a good device to use during Defcon once Signal works properly on it.
ОтветитьThe design is very human.
ОтветитьIt would be neat if they added voice typing it would fix the typing issues
ОтветитьThis is far too stripped down to my taste. Basically if you need to do anything else but write messages or call (which in 2023 you most likely do) you need to carry another phone which kind of defeats the point. I wouldn't even be able to buy it for my grandpa because it doesn't have a camera for taking pictures.
IMO with the state the minimalist devices are in now it is far better to just buy a smartphone, slap a custom rom on it and don't install anything but bare minimum of apps.
