If you were going to buy one mid tier rifle that you would use for the rest of your life, what rifle would it be? I have a Ruger American in 308, but I am wanting to buy one higher quality rifle, that I will use on my property to hunt deer and hogs. I have quite a bit of other guns, but I have no use for more than a couple hunting rifles. I am not asking what cartridge would you pick, but what brand and model would you pick …if I wanted to stay under $1000 on just the rifle. I plan on buying a nice optic for it.

I still haven't found a more comfortable rifle than my old 30/06 Remington BDL. That there gun shoots about 1.4 groups with factory ammunition. Ì have a pet reload in fire formed brass that will poke all 3 into a single jagged hole everytime if I do my part right. I am old fashioned and don't even want any of these newfangled thousand dollar plus guns.

Sometimes finding what you need is a challenge, take a left eye dominate shooter, I have to use pump or lever for everything except my Kel-Tec PMR 30 due to wanting a gun I can control the ejection on due to my arm being where it is with guns, so my newest the 22 LR is a pump Rossi Gallery Gun wood stock and I have the Remmington __ (forgot number) Varmint Hunter 243 as my deer and potential long distance coyote riffle and a Youth 870 Remmington Shotgun for birds and could be used for deer too as the barrel is smooth bore. This is why I have to use a cheaper gun, could have used a lever 22 LR but a pump 22 LR makes more sense, then I have a Remmington 870 I got as my first gun, this gun is just like most shotgun, pump, and last the synthetic stock Remmington __ (forgot number) Varmint Hunter 243, I do wish either the stock was wood or that the synthetic stock was not so sharp on the grip or the edges, this gun gets uncomfortable in warmer early season hunting when I do not have my gray convertible glove mittens on.
