Would like to know what issues you have had with the VMS. My experience hasn’t been great, especially with the navigation, which was the main point for buying it.

Good stuff, just considering one of these. Does it allow importing of gpx files? Thats the most important feature to me for planning trips.

Very good review thank you.
For camping like free camps and up-to-date information really you cannot go past wiki camps for the cost and the amount of information that you get. I have found that most mapping works better on a iPad or an iPhone and would not waste my money on a standalone unit for what I do. If I need a really accurate map of an area I download a Off line Google map these I have found to be the most accurate out of all the maps the only downfall is Google maps wants you to use Wi-Fi not cellular data but a hotspot between my iPhone and iPad and not a problem. Just gotta remember to do it before you get out of phone service.
How’s the rewire job going on the Ute and the canopy?

Nope I will never spend money on vms again. I've had 3 supported them for years since the h2s, and I've never been happier then when I stopped using it. Hema is not much better. I'll stick to my Android apps from now on, no freezing, no drive.exe is corrupted, no having the sd cards fail, no out of date maps, ....

I do still have a couple questions. Does it have On Road & Off Road modes like the 700HDX? I found the Off Road mode on the old one to be an absolute waste of time and is a big reason I bought it over just a normal Navman. I also found the installed Waypoints & Free Camps to be misplaced by heaps as shown in my review video of the 700HDX. You said it is not designed to replace Google Maps, Does that mean its not real good for around town use? That is the main reason I use mine other than marking my camp sites etc. I think I wouldnt mind giving one a try but no way I would spend the money on it first, If VMS see this comment and want me to change my mind and review their product hit me up. If it has redeemed it's self over the 700HDX I would be glad to use it.

Nice, thanks for sharing. I use the old version and find it a real pain without the GPS maps. It had lots of paper maps installed and when you reach the end of one map it take ages to load the next, especially if you're on a winding trail/road. It's also not very good on road for finding everyday destinations/businesses.

Are they seriously selling these for $500? Tell them they are dreaming, you can buy an Android tablet and run a number of map apps for that money. Not to mention install apps like Wiki Camps, Tides, Inclinometer, DCDC/Lithium/Solar Monitors all on the same unit.

Great work Paul, I had the last one and too was a piece of junk, thing froze all the time, was so slow and looked like it was running software back from in the 90’s, hope they have made a huge improvement on this one

I did have a VMS GPS unit and for me, I found it completely unreliable and absolutely useless should be interesting to see how the new unit compares.

Interesting . . . I had the old one and it was great for street nav but really shit for off-road!
I used it in the Vic high country on street nav and it wasn't too bad although I have nothing to compare it to.
It lasted about 3 years and went plink and stopped working. Seemed like the support was below par too. It Will be interesting to see if this is any better.
