As a Christian I have much empathy for the end of the Byzantines and the conquering of the holy city of Constantinople but at the same time I marvel at the martial prowess of the Ottomans during this time. There are always two sides of history not good or evil just humans fighting other humans.

I live at the point where Constantinople was conquered (Ayvansaray). My house is just below the Roman Empire Palace. I get very emotional when I think of the war and conquest that took place here. When the municipality excavates any street here, the bones of people who fought in that period are still revealed. Right next to us, a 100-year-old house was destroyed and a Byzantine tomb was found under it. We live on a very large and rich history. I have endless respect for the Roman Empire, who created this history, and the Turks who preserved and maintained it.

There is not only 1 big gun (şahi gun), there were at least 40-45 and even 6 of them still stands on some museums. Ottoman "fighter" army was around 50-60k, Roman's civilian fighters not 30k was around 5-7k, reloading the guns was around 1,5-2 hours, one of the gun (not biggest as there were no biggest) lost as Mehmet wanted to reload quicker, guns was not destroying the walls but biting and demolishing day by day, Giustiniani (or any force) was not repelled the final attack, he was already fighting different places on the wall and on this final attack he wounded and carried away..

All the other Christian's who abandoned the Byzantine empire have no honor at all, Blessed Be.
