Is it true that this song is about a last ditch romance during an impending nuclear war? Meaning melt literally? I always really loved this song but found it kind of melancholy. We came very close to one in the early 80’s. It was the peak of the Cold War.

Songs put you in a time and place. I was hiking on a trail with my high school classmates. I had borrowed my brothers Aiwa cassette Walkman. I was listening to this song and tuned everyone out. It was just me and nature. I LOVE this song!!

Great song but why did the guitarist change the penultimate note of the F broken chord in the verses? Sounds like it went from a D in the original to a C.

It's your song so obviously your choice but it's just odd to me...and I'm sure I'm in a minute minority.

I remember in 1983 when I was 23 I had a girlfriend that I met at the place I was working at the time and she loved this song. We broke up in 1985 but she was the first I girlfriend that I had since high school at the time. My first girlfriend was in kindergarten believe or not that was back in 1965. I've had many girlfriends in my life time and in 1999 when I was 39 I met my wife and we had our son on Jan. 3, 2000 when we were 40. Now he's 22 and he isore successful than I was.

It was always mesh and lace.
