Nothing should be called a Time Capsule that's less than 100 year's old and certainly not younger than I. 🤔🙄

My favorite time capsule in history has to be of the one Old RIP.

In 1897 the old court house in eastland tx was built. A time capsule was put inside the walls of this building. It had what you expect from a small texas town of that era: bibles documents, ect. But a lone prankster decided to just toss in a LIVING horned toad. The capsule was nearly forgotten. 30 years passed and when taking down the old courthouse to make a new one the capsule was found.

Opening the capsule sure enough there was the little lizard. He looked dead, not rotten or decomposed, just looked dead.

Then it moved.

The little guy fucking survived 30 years alone in that capsule. They named him Old RIP and the animal went on tour and even saw the president of that time.

Eventually people fought over who should keep old rip like a bunch of children at a park which even meant some people were sent to prison.


Sadly he passed away just a year later of pneumonia and was embalmed. His body remains at the court house in a tiny velvet casket and his own tombstone.

Since he can't even have peace in death another batch of pranksters stole his body but it was eventually returned.

and a guy running for governor wanted some pictures with old rip. He picked him up by the hind leg which broke his leg.


If you never heard of old rip then you know him as the dancing frog from looney toons.

I find it kinda fitting as instead of the man becoming rich and famous the frog utterly humiliates the man.

I was working on an old 1800's church in 1975 and had to remove the "Keystone" to place it on the front of the new addition. A Keystone is piece of stone (white granite in this case) that has the building's dates chiseled into it. When I pulled it out I found a metal box behind it. I turned it over to the church and they found records and memorabilia from it's founding up until 1901 when it was rebuilt after a fire. The church members updated all of the info about the church and included current pictures. They even included a picture of me standing with the box and the Keystone, with a description of who I was and how the box was found. The new box was put behind the new Keystone, which was placed beside the old Keystone on the front of the new church addition. Who knows, maybe in 100 years someone will be looking at my picture and wondering about how life was "back then!"

(i'm 20 now btw so it was unopened for about 6/7 years) I had written myself a check list of things i wanted to do or questions i had as well as some drawings. It was great.
