No thanks, maybe now have goans who are pro Portuguese on the show and give their perspective. Sorry but I have EVERYTHING because of the Portuguese and I still wish Goa was part of Portugal, would've got a better education, better opportunities. Even my great grand mother from salcette side was a Portuguese professor. So these people complaining about the Portuguese are just low lives who didn't wanna change. What is Goa without the Portuguese? Just another dirty little Indian village. So No, if you want your Indian culture, go to India, don't mess up Goa.

And just for the record Goa was where the first printing of the east was and so much more development, the churches even are so many it was called Rome of the East. Now look at Goa, all about parties, drugs, etc. it's a shame, and my people were robbed when India annexed Estado da Índia. But there's still hope, as India goes coocoo, maybe goans will return to their senses and go back to the Portuguese 😉

I met this community of saraswat bhramins & their temple in car Street Mangalore, who very painfully narate their story, that how ther ancestors escaped from being slaughtered by the Portuguese from Goa leaving all their wealth & positions & escaped only what mattered most to them more than their lives, & it was the idol of their daity .

I hope all these insights instill huge magnitude of respect for leaders like Shivaji Maharaj, Bhagat Singh & MahaRana Pratap. Imagine how future of Bharat (India) would have shaped without these visionaries.

Bammans have destroyed India through the cruel and unjust castes system
Bammans have exploited the Sc St obc people for centuries through the cruel and kutil castes system
The Bammans are still lying about their dark history of oppression of lower castes and making lots of money by falsehood and superstition

Very well narated ma'm. Also have heard small stories from my mom, like them visiting Goa as kids... if born in Goa, you are naturally Goan citizen too then... Indian army walking through Belgaum by foot to Goa overnight... Instructions given to locals in Belgaum .. the victory celebrations etc.

Destruction or change of culture of culture takes different forms with time. Today the major form is mass migration and ecomomial reasons. We have to try to preserve good culture of all the places in the world. It is so loving to see them alive and sad to see dying.

Goa's dark past needs to be contextualized within the Framework of Brahminical India's near enslavement of the lower castes .These ills gave rise to Buddhism ,Jainism and Sikhism.A local Hindu Chieftain Tomojje was instrumental in bringing in the Portuguese .But Hindutva India seems to have ave hoodwinked an
entire generation of Hindus and seems to be headed for a dark future .

Keep bias out when talking history, emotions always screw reality.. This is skewed up version of history and paints the whole era of colonisation in a negative light.. let’s face this, the primary purpose of the Portuguese was creating Portugal away from Portugal. Yes they pushed conversions, and many of us christians don’t regret these conversions… inquisition no doubt had a devastating impact, but the Maratha invasion of goa had equivalent impact. It’s debatable if the Portuguese were successful in changing the culture in Goa despite trying. Unlike the British who were successful in pushing ‘angrezi’ in India. The Portuguese failed in killing Konkani in Goa despite banning it. That alone should tell u how ineffective and inefficient the Portuguese were.

2 types of conversions took place,, 1. Elite class got converted to save their property.
2. Scheduled caste were too innocent, were converted by missionaries of st. Xavier, in to Catholics just by throwing rice balls on their house roofs, confused and scared people ran to their Hindu priests and asked what to do now, - were told by the Hindu priests that they cannot be accepted as Hindus anymore.
It was very sad , and it's said that even St. Xavier literally started crying and told his followers not to force conversion

I totally agree with Sawani .I m from Goa married in MP .After my marriage I had a weird experience , my husband's relatives and neighbours specifically came to see me because I was the new bride from Goa. They were shocked to see a girl wearing saree and with long hair. They had imagined someone with short hair and some short dress. This happened 33 yrs back .I m from Ponda which has lovely temples like Mangeshi ,Nageshi ,Ramnathi , Shantadurga etc.

I love podcasts that are history oriented and informative. How I wish all this was covered in our history books instead of chapters on Jesus Christ and Mughals. I demand true history to be taught in schools. God bless u Savani for such an insight. God bless u Ranveer for inviting such amazing people.
