Definitely going to look for a berlingo perfect for my growing German shepherd who's ruining my Toyota Avensis estate...

Be interesting to know if the kangoo wears rear tyres like the berlingo and partner vans do. Very bad design fault on those vans. It's a shame because they are good vans otherwise. 😀❤ Love the stuff you are doing very interesting.

There are no words in the world to be able to describe the degree of imbecility of those who designed the Kangoo dashboard!!! It is a congenital cretinism!!! The component parts have been thermo-welded so that they can no longer be disassembled. This is nothing! The parts that actuate the aerators were made by a retarded idiot. They break after a few actions and then it is impossible to reach to change them! Everything is thermo-welded and practically the disassembly requires breaking the entire dashboard! The actuators break down quickly and it is preferable to leave them the hell blocked. Attempts to repair the ventilation system end up with broken fingers, serious injuries and more broken components than there were initially! This Kangoo is a nightmare... Absolutely nightmare!!!

Can you believe in Argentina is exactly the same versus polemicize ? Renault Kangoo is best selling 'cause it has a cheaper sticker price for acquisition at official dealers . The Berlingo is a quite best buy , infact i work at a Mechanic's parcel area , we saw very often those Renault Kangoo at idle for everything. Mechanic told me that thanks to Renault's his wallet gets fat and is a good profit for him , instead of Citroen's being very healthy vehicles . So amazing your discusion resembles the same discusion in SouthAmerica , true compliments so appreciated mister Hubnut

It is hard to choose as both are attractive and practical.
The slight width advantage of the Berlingo might just sway it but I wouldn't call it a deal breaker because of how both of these little vehicles make a Peugeot 208, Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsa seem very cramped, impractical and expensive in comparison.

Had a 2002 berlingo multispace 1.9 diesel non turbo Excellent car got it with 92k got rid of it 11 yrs later with a 195k. Then got a 2005 Peugeot partner 1.6hdi. No way near as good as the older berlingo

Paddling pools and quick-release cubbies! My mates Mam-Van 3000 (aka 110 diesel Berlingo) was good fun to be fair. I appreciate this is a Bangernomics channel (is James Ruppet still alive?) but the new one looks fab too! Those Nissan Renault alliance engines are good too, although I must declare an interest (like PM’s are supposed too), my brother is SVP for Nissans Technology Centre here in the U.K.!

This has been very well thought through. Away from home charging is a bugbear at the moment, and needs to improve rapidly, maybe too rapidly, at the moment. What do you think of Hydrogen for those 25% who don’t have any off street parking? FYI I’m a big fan of ICE for fun and EV for daily stuff, like Jonny Smith actually! 🙂

The 1.5dci is notoriously shite. The 1.6 PSA diesel is definitely better especially the newer version of it. Far from perfect but better. I did over 100k in my focus with that dv6 engine never skipped a beat.

great comparison review. I must admit when the clutch went on my wives 307 2.0 Hdi we replaced it with a 1.6 petrol engine'd one. I can confirm the simplicity of the engine compared to a diesel is great. for example I'm looking forwards to changing the cambelt rather than dreading it compared to the Hdi derivative. The engine has quite a nice sporty note too. As always a great video.

Another Great video review from Hubnut.

I love my Berlingo 2.0hdi Desire.
Its a great little vehicle for all occasions, Especially wild camping.
Looking up at the stars through the modutop makes for a great night.
The A/C works efficiently, The Traction control is effective enough to keep out of bother on the skiddy stuff, And the roofrails/ rack are more than sufficient to carry my kayak around, or mount the roofbox upon.
Its so utilitarian and capable of any task its truly the Swiss army knife of motoring.
All in all, It's cheap to run, And loads of fun.
I definately won't be parting with it.

My brother has a 1.4 petrol Peugeot Partner and it is slow! I’ve got a 6-month old petrol Berlingo 8-speed auto and it’s quite quick! My first petrol after 30 years of diesel - the Adblue stuff on new diesels is too complicated for a long life

I hate the kangoo. Feels incredibly cheaply made (because it is) and the dash is pretty impractical too. The Berlingo/Partner has always been a great van, well put together and a well thought out interior. Neither could hold a candle to a transit though.

Interesting test, especially since the Kangoo and Berlingo are potential candidates for replacing my parents' 2009 Golf with something larger if it fails completely. I've never been in a Berlingo but at least two different Kangoo models. My pet peeve with the Kangoo is that despite of the seemingly massive headroom those shelves above the windscreen are low enough for me to hit my head on trying to look into the glovebox or something like that. Might have to try a Berlingo next!

The BIG question (somebody may have already asked) is when will you drive a Fiat Doblo for comparison? My brother-in-law had one a while back and bought it because he reckoned it was bigger than either the Kangoo or the Berlingo (not sure if he looked at the Multispace though).

This is way better than top gear….

I prefer the interior of the 2nd gen Berlingo.
A good diesel is still good and can sound fine…but that Renault 1.5 diesel…..not so much.

….so a long term question I have had about cars like this…..with all that space, you might be expecting to load them up, making them heavy….meaning a diesel engine would make by far the most sense. What would be the point of a modest petrol engine…especially say 1.3 or 1.4?…..unless your using it to transport 💐 (almost no weight but u still need the space).
…Ooops, then again we won’t have such choices to make by end of the decade with the switch or electric 💷💷💷😬

PS, at the start, were u hinting at diesel/turbo-diesel probs limiting their longevity compared with the petrol option? Years ago, the diesel was considered the much longer lived with a couple of petrol exceptions, Volvo redblock etc. Are modern diesels too complex for their own good and undermine their longevity?

Lovely video.
My girlfriend’s 307 has the same engine as the Berlingo. TU5. I must say that it is a very polyvalent engine even having some torque low down. Cruising very easily is okay low down and in higher revs it is happy as well.

I work at a Renault garage, if a Kangoo is traded in, it still goes through the workshop and usually ends up being sold on the forecourt (usually very quickly). I'd also say that the 1.5 dci is one of the better engines of the last 20 years, as apart from a few relatively minor/superficial things in some applications they're pretty bomb proof (and if cared for properly will happily reach 200k miles no problem). Renault are still making that engine
