IK Multimedia Hammond B-3X Virtual Tonewheel Organ Review

Fun! Great review! Yep, used this on a recent production, sounded great! My only wish is to be able to adjust the treble and woofer Leslie ramp times individuallly. Maybe in an update. It also uses lots of CPU! But it sounds like a B3 and a Leslie to me, and I love all the customization! Great playing at the end! 👍

How do you connect the small midi keyboard for the bass pedals? Can any midi keyboard give you access to the bass pedals? Thanks

You can automate the Wah to midi pedal and switch (latch engage) on a controller. I use (on my controller)
Wah ON-CC54...Pedal Assignment CC55 and this should translate to work in your DAW. I haven't found a way to assign the Reverb pedal/distortion pedal or Reverb FX volume to midi note yet,

I wanted to ask if you thought the B-3X was a more persuasive emulation of the B3 than the VB3-II. Also whether you find it's a heavier load on the CPU than VB3-II. I use the iPad version, and somehow, I couldn’t set up the sliders on my M-Audio Axiom to control the drawbars. Mission impossible so far.

What keyboard controller are you using? Is it weighted?

This is putting my AcousticSamples B5 to shame.

I cannot open IK Hammond in Cubase 5. Somebody can help me?

How do I make my Yamaha MX61 synth control the B3 X software? I have the USB A - B plugged in and hooked up to my computer, but when I press a key on my synth, nothing happens on the software. Am I missing something?

The real controller for this would be bass pedals, and a 2 manual (dual stacked keyboard) because you really need the lower manual too to access the 3 parts. Pedal, Great manual (lower manual) and the Swell (upper manual). You play the mellow accompaniment on the lower manual and the solo lead on the upper manual with the pedals for bass. A Hammond SKX or XK-5 neither cheap, could midi to this plug in and control it. Of course that raises the price substantially but real organists would want this. Studio tracking musicians could track the pedals, lower and upper manuals to get the same effect for recording. But as a performer I'd want an organ controller for this plug in after testing it today. It sounds amazing and the Leslie sim is the best out there.

I really like this instrument!! I noticed you're using real drawbars to control the virtual ones. Currently I use a Nektar Impact LX, & I really can't stand my drawbars feeling like faders on a mixer - which is what's on the Nektar. What module are you using to control the drawbars?

I've been in love with the B3 for years now but not enough to want to buy one. Who knew I'd end up with a VIRTUAL one lol? I LOVE this thing. Using a Hammond XK3 as the contoller. Using the XK3 as the controller had lots of bugs when the first version of B3x was released and I worked with IKMultimedia for over a month to get it to work and that's when they released the second version. SO cool! Much thanks to IKMultimedia for all the work on it and letting me be of assistance in getting the XK3 working FULLY with this software.

Glad you’re enjoying playing by yourself. A B3 musician, this system sound 4¢ higher than a Hammond tonewheel. On stage you can’t match instruments like a Hammond. But its infinite fun in your basement with hauling a B3 down there
