Clever Humpback Whale Pops Up for a Snack

This is no longer a unique event. Hatcheries have created some of their own nightmares and this has become common near mass release points.

Have you dropped hydrophone to see if salmon are send out sounds that attract the whale? Or maybe smell?

This is one of my favorite videos. I revisit it every couple of years. This whale and her intelligence take my breath away, every time I see it.

I have to say the hatchery workers is so dumb. Why do you open the net so wide that is enough for the whale to get in the pool ? And why don't you fix this and let the whale do this again in the next year ?

Seriously? These guys cannot outsmart the whale? Whale-proof the enclosures and release when the whale is not there. If the whale takes up residence, widely disperse the salmon.
