Breaking Silence: Inside the closed world of Carmelite Nuns

I would have liked to hear more about the "call". The earthly considerations and sacrifices - how they cope with their celibacy, for example - have no meaning without the "call". Of course, the general public might be more interested in the individual sacrifices linked to monastic life, but I think they could reach out to those yet to be called by using these videos to talk about the religious aspect of their call.

I've sent an email to the Carmelite Monastery in our city. I'm excited and nervous just by waiting for their response.

When I was young,there were two convents with different nuns and sisters.
The sisters taught in my school.The nuns were if I am correct closed.There
was one sister I liked,and she was Sister Francis.She was an Angel
from Heaven.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.

You can take little things that these nuns practice, and add them to your own life: giving thanks for food and every day's blessings. Now that I'm older and I need to be completely quiet after I eat, so my food will digest, it's the ideal time after eating to close one's eyes, lay down for 15-20 minutes and completely let your outside thoughts go and pray and meditate and give thanks. Jesus always gave thanks before eating; I sometimes think if he'd have lived until he was 60 or 70, he instead would have prayed and given thanks after eating.

People starred and said hi to them. They said hi back.

Refreshing to see nuns who are real, authentic and focussed on prayer, and who aren't wrapped up in singing like angels in white looking ever so perfect. Thank you Carmelites OCD and I love my little flower.

Called to be separated. And in this way, you are more in God and God in you. I am of the world and not of the "this" world. Never fitting in even with the people I thought I was to fit in with, I became mentally disabled. I take many medications. I am alone. I was living with 2 kitties, and one went to his eternal sleep and now I take care of my little sister's kitty. My little sister passed away and she was the only Saint I have ever known on earth. She was heavily mentally and physically disabled/handicapped to the point where she could not ever sin. She didn't know how. Therefore, she is a Saint. I long for the day I meet her in heaven. My mother and father who I took care of are passed to heaven and the two elderly ladies I took care of have passed on to heaven. It is strange to not be taking care of anyone. For me anyway. I purchased $2000 of Warmies which are stuffed animals for those that need some happiness. They can be found online. Do a Google Search. If you want one, they are very affordable. They really work. And I purchased many games and activities for the elderly to do at the elderly home so they would be a little less bored. I will be paying on that $2000 for a long, long, time. I am slowly getting things ready for when I enter the elderly home. I want a few books, coloring books and crayons, games one plays on their own and I will take my inside the house hobby with me. I am at the age where I have about 20 years if I am lucky. The last three or five I want to be in the elderly home here in this little town. How I would like a "habit" to wear! Someday, when the Lord sees fit, I will wear blue and white. It is a symbol of our Holy Mother. Many women have been very important in my life. More so than men. I shall throw all other clothes away or give them to the thrift store or use them in sewing projects and wear my blue and white the rest of my life every day and when I pass on, I will wear white and black. This has already been arranged. Yes, pray for others and include yourself. You must learn to love yourself to be open to love others. Remember always the short time Christ was a "Dead Jesus." Remember always the Living Christ. The body and blood come from the living and risen Christ. Keep that image in your heart. Pay reverence to the Christ dead on the cross and in his crypt. But he was dead for only a very short time. His death was necessary for us all through all time and for opening the gates to heaven for those souls which had passed. God Bless Us Every One. Faith. Hope. Love. Little Nellie of Holy God, pray for us all. Amen. (My New Year's resolution is to sin one less time this year.)

I'm Catholic and am glad to see Nuns in traditional clothing because when I was at school they started off looking like this but then they started wearing mini skirts and no headgear. This was the 70s and I couldn't tell if a lady was a Nun or not.

I've been watching videos about Orthodox Jewish women and now these.
I don't quite get the idea of these women serving others through prayer when the world needs dedicated women but it's not my calling.

How beautiful they look, dressed in a modest dress and yet so beautiful. So amazing to know muslims and christians look alike with a same ambition of peace in life and having almost a same attire.

To be a nun or monk in the way the word has become today is probably the best investment

I would love to start some sort of faith... where I could live in a big house with a bunch of like-minded girlfriends. We'd wear comfy clothes.. robes maybe. We'd have gardens and read books. And we could make crafts for people to buy. And we'd think about things... a lot. And people could call us to think about topics and we'd do that. Sounds nice.

I’m baffled that these women dedicate their entire LIVES to Jesus and read the word of God yet they still don’t understand that you aren’t supposed to pray to a cross or have statues or images of anything in heaven. It’s in the scriptures.

I'm honestly probably going to do the opposite now, since nobody cares. I should have done that awhile ago, back when it was cool.

Many things are changing nowadays. There are married priests which was was forbidden in years before.Pope has change and many rules in the Vatican have change.May be in the years to come Nuns will be authorised to be married too😊.

I'm trying to get to know God more, feel his presence more, and I love watching these videos. When I was a child I wanted to be a nun but I went down some bad paths instead. I'm great now but always think back to that contentment and love I once felt sitting in church and singing. I hope I can feel it again one day!

The odd thing is, having graduated from a Carmel High School, our nuns were most definitely not in the shadows. They were very busy interacting with students. They knew your name, they knew your activities, they worried about you.

What a waste of lives.

I'm an Atheist but I think all of these ladies are fantastic and really genuine and down to earth. Good on them is what I say!

Total Waste of Time and Money

When Jesus said, " The kingdom of God is within you." he meant it literally. Most people are so distracted by the world "out there" that they have no idea of the world within. The mystics within the Catholic Church have struggled throughout history to introduce this awareness into the mainstream ideology, sometimes costing them their lives. These nuns, to some extent recognize this world within, even though the Church rarely recognizes it in the way Jesus intended for it to be. Some of those mystics were, in fact, Carmelite Nuns.

One of the worse experiences of my life was going to a Carmelite's elementary school. These nuns seem happy, the ones at my school were not.

I had a great aunt who was a Carmelite nun.....I went with my husband and our daughters to the Carmelite nunnery in Darlington, UK to visit my gt aunt, it was a wonderful experience.

I think instead of asking if there is no Heaven, we should be asking ourselves why we would even consider that there isn't Heaven. Why do we seek to deny its existence? Is it guilt, a feeling we aren't good enough to achieve it, so we simply try to convince ourselves that we wouldn't want to go? We aren't good enough. We won't be pure enough, perfect enough for Heaven on our own. But we do have a loving and redeeming Lord who will lead us to Heaven. He will be our strength to seek it, our Shepherd to keep us on the narrow path, the merciful Judge who will have mercy on us, so long as we ask Him to do so. Sacrifice is also more than simply doing without. It is a means to experience joys we would never know in a life of indulgence. I think the Sisters get that.

I was in one of the Marist schools . Not all nuns and brothers were evil but one or two could really give extra lessons to the devil..... some were kind though.

Praying these women come to know the true Jesus Christ of the Bible.

Very sad they are following a false church. The Roman Catholic Church follows man’s laws not God’s ( the Bible). RCC is paganism with a sprinkling of Christianity.
