Quad-Cores Are Back! Intel Core i3 12100F Review, Much Better Than Expected

With the Linux inventor castigating Amd for their compute bug my next cpu will be a budget i3. Amd is also over priced.

why no 2k or 4k tests? That would be more realistic when it comes to cpus and gaming

my laptop have an intel core i3-1115G4 and is crazy how fast it is I was thinking in upgrading the memory ram because in my opinion its a little short only 4gb im planning of buying an 16 gb module but I was thinking if I would upgrade the cpu that would be sweet

I'm wondering why an i3 is paired with an RX 6900 XT on 1080p resolution. Who would actually buy a GPU just to play at 1080p? You could have shown FPS @ 1440p and 4K resolution.

4 core intel CPU = monsters.

4 core AMD CPU = non-existent and nonsensical.

Running it right now on my rig, insane performance for the price, the only downside is that if your case is kinda old and has bad air circulation (like mine) it gets hot pretty easy and you will need some cooling upgrades, not to the point of water cooling but maybe a good heatsink and extra case fans. I run 3 medium/big case fans with the stock sink+some diy holes on the side pannels and it doesnt usually go past 70/75°C even under high loads. 10/10 for cheap gaming builds.

Why use a z series board to test this CPU? Totally unnecessary.

Why pair 6900xt with i3 12100. Clearly there's a CPU bottleneck. Pair it with rx6600/xt and then we'll see even better performance in gaming

as a i3 12100F user, i quite like this chip, quite good for £99 and really makes old i7s seem like bad value

For science - can you test the i3 12100 with hyperthreading disabled to see if the latest intel quad core architecture can still play the latest games without stutter?

Here in swe the price of and ryzen 5500 with cheapest b550/mid a520 is around 10usd more expensive then 12100F with H610 motherboard that could be a budget rival but i think il go for det 12100F

Half a year later, comming from a R5 1600, I bought this CPU with a Z690 motherboard and 16GB DDR5 RAM. 380 Euros in total and I'm hoping it's gonna be the right decision, depending on what Intel delivers with their 13th gen.

When I started watching pc builds videos back in 2020 amd seems good in budget CPUs and thought they will be in the future. But damn I think never think any company is good. Intel is also doing this coz amd is not there now.

Can you please include Microsoft Flight Simulator in your benchmarks? It's a very demanding title for CPUs and it's pretty hard to find channels so good as this one , I know some times you include it for GPU but it's more a CPU bottlenecked game or simulator. I was curious to see how this i3 would compare to zen3 options. Thanks!

I3 i remember years ago in the 3rd gen and 5th the i3s were trash compared to i5s and 7s now they can compete impressive

I'm a first time builder and I'm not computer savvy by any stretch of the imagination....that been said I wanted to ask you which would be a better choice in mobos....I'm planning to do a build with an i3 12100F and I'm not sure which mobo to get....MSI Mag B660M Mortar wifi ddr4 or the Gigabyte b600m ds3h ax? The main purpose is school work and some retro gaming and casually some....don't know what they're called...triple A games. Thank you for your time.
