Bah don't quit, I just found out about you, probably others did too. I'm eyeballing that Toughpad you have there, they want bucks for the keyboard though... How is the battery on it when deployed for mobile use?

This sounds good but I don't understand what it is exactly. Is there a video I can watch to clarify this?

Hello Sir, I am reaching out in hopes of finding out where one can go to get smart on antennae's. I am a technician and just want to be able to establish coms locally ( 40 miles or so to relatives) My knowledge is limited and local club have been no help since i MENTIONED i WAS A "PREPPER". is there anything on your channel or others that can help learn how to create, aim and how they work.

Thank you. While I have some catching up to do, your work, videos, and sacrifices to share with the prepping ham community are greatly appreciated. I will be joining the BuyMeaCoffee, as well as sharing it with my fellow prep group here in Ohio. Your videos took my interest into the digital side of comms, and while I have been doing different HF modes from base, I am now starting to invest in gear that is taking me mobile.

Thank you for doing this update video. Thank you and your family for the sacrifice of the 7 week sabatical and allowing you to focus on this for us fans. I greatly appreciate it! Sucks that yt demonitized you. I'm already a coffee purchaser, but may upgrade in response. Glad to hear that the manpack bags may be back on the menu soon. I have been using a sling bag from Amazon with my 891, that I was using for hiking with the dog, but it's a far cry from a TTP manpack! Will be getting the Armoloq cage once those are available (doesn't fit in my current bag).

FT-891 support!!! You mentioned standardizing on the DR-891 but I imagine that a Digirig Mobile and separate USB cable for cat control will probably work as well with your intended capabilities? Just asking for those of us who bought before the DR-891 hit the market recently. Although I can always think of a need for an “extra” digirig!

You should look into the sbitx too it's definitely an offgrid capable type rig not really rugged per say but runs a raspberrypi. Once you release emcom os I have a tough book 30 to pair with the sbitx I'm down to test

I enjoy your work immensely. Real word applications make it valuable material. So sorry to hear that YT demonetized you. I saw in one of your videos that you were wearing a sidearm in the field. While I personally belive that is a wise practice, perhaps YT did not think that visual was appropriate. I can't recall how long ago thata video came out relative to the timing of YT's actions. I'm far from a techie. I'm a new General and just getting into remote comms set-ups. Good luck going forward.

As much as I love seeing these update videos, I won’t be upset at all if we don’t get another video from you these next couple of months because I know that means you’re hard at work creating an awesome product for the amateur radio community. Making the turnkey “it just works” solution that the community so desperately needs.

Even those of us who like and enjoy the deeper nerd stuff still want to see products like this come to fruition and understand their importance and position. Sometimes you don’t want to have to think and you just want to sit back, relax, and operate the appliance. This is especially useful during emmcom and tense, high-stress emergency situations.

Looking forward to the Emcomm being released. I'll be glad to pay for that. Keep up the good job, Gaston! And God bless you in this new phase!

I did work with Winlink automatic connections using Pat and bash scripts, with the idea to make a VM or Raspberry Pi image and it just works with minimal understanding how to do it all. I got it working well for me, but the ardop bug hit me and I couldn't find anyone willing to test and give any feed back. Vara works well on wine, but it has some usability issues. I'm happy to share what I've done and willing to share the repo and clean up what I've done. I know you've already done a lot, but you're welcome to use any of my stuff if it can save some time.


I've done all sorts of Linux sysadmin and networking, even created OS images to ship to an integrator to be installed on customer hardware.

Very interesting project =) Will there be support for Yeasu FT-847 ( as home / deploy-able station - all-mode shack in a box - SAT tracking - "Earth Station" that uses the DB-9 real serial port =) The radio is fully supported by Fldigi and others using RigCat =) Looking forward to see your project =)

Does your software come with a stand alone version of VOACAP?

I've seen standalone versions of such software, it's available for free online,but it is old, from the mid 1990s and difficult to use.
