PF: WOTR ENHANCED - PET GUIDE: BEST PETS, 90+ AC TANK & DPS/CC BUILDS, Best BUFFS & GEAR

NOTE: Depending on the point you are at in the game when creating your pets, you might not have a Headband of +2 INT available early. The solution is to increase INT just at level 4 (for 3 INT), or wait until around Chapter 2 for the Heaband/respec your pet after that if you prefer.
The extra point in Intelligence shouldn't reduce the effectiveness of your pet if needed.
For the Tanky Horse, who gets a feat that requires 3 INT earlier than level 4, simply delay Improved Unarmed Strike to level 5, and then add Weapon Focus: Bite at level 3 instead.
You can also add Crane Riposte if you enjoy the feat at level 13 instead of Improved Critical, then.

Ya know this proclivity towards giving everybody an animal companion makes me think of that one G.I Joe Robot Chicken clip.

Hi cRPGBro and anyone else reading this. I'm playing the game again after more than half a year away so I havent been keeping up with the patches, is this guide still fairly accurate or are their some major/minor changes you think I should be aware of most especially for the tanking pets?

Ok I'm thinking about doing a pet only run. Just all my characters buff up all my pets and they do all the damage. At like what difficulty does this sound doable and what should my party look like for optimal buffing.

So i have Animal companion on Lann, Sosiel and Seelah. 2 dogs n 1 horse. i haven't been able to level them or give them armor or anything. Where am i messing up. Someone assist please.

I don't think crane wing works anymore. At least it doesn't show on the character'panel.

I wonder if you could succesfully use Bismuth (Triceratops Statuette) and have a character built around it with a class that normally can't have mounts.

As of now geniekind doesn't apply 4 times, it replaces itself on a new cast. So elemental barrage is borked now sadly

who is the best pet in the game for pure tank Bulwark ?

I did not find a headband of intelligence in act I. Should I still level up seelahs horse? I want to avoid putting a point into intelligence

As of now (March 2023) the Leopard level 4 upgrade has been fixed - it used to get STR +4, DEX -2, CON +4 instead of advertised DEX +2, CON +2, which made it a bit less viable focusing on DEX for later game - now it really is DEX +2, CON +2, which makes it much better focusing on DEX.
Taking Fury's fall + Agile maneuvers makes it also a better Tripper now. Still not as good as the Dog because you have to skip Animal growth. Also with only one Trip attempt per round.
On the other hand it has highest AC of them all!
Overall, much more interesting also for later game now.

Of the NPCs you get in your party (Wendauwag, Selah, Camilla, Ember, etc, which one would be best to spec into a pet class? I was thinking taking Camilla into a pet Shaman or ranger?

Using an item to bypass the feat requirements has to be a bug. It totally doesn't work that way in the pen and paper game, and I'm betting they fixed it, or will at some point.

At the start of Act 1, you can get useful +1 attack and damage gloves from Indarah if you fail the persuade check and ask Pink Eye to answer instead. Useful for a pet, especially this early.

Level 20, all I get from horse is 70 AC: shield of faith, protection from evil, haste, insight, +6 natural armor necklace, no armor, mythical beast, shield from alchemist, +8 bracers, legendary proportions

Which mythic class would you consider be the best option for a pet build?

Since dog's and wolves only have 1 mode of attack (naturally) it should count as a two handed attack per the rules, thus giving them 1.5 times STR bonus to attack. Might need mod for it in game though.

Why do you say that the horse main attack is a bite ?
It says on level 4 hoof attacks become primary

If I may, why does your dog's athletics score a +13 at level one? When I did it on my oracle, it could only go to +7

I'd like to see builds for the other pet types, even if they are statistically just worse versions, sometimes it's nice to diversify who's got what.

Did they redo pets or something? I can't find a way to get to my pet's inventory or have it gain levels.

I thought the Smilodon was the best pet with it's 5 attacks

I don't understand I'm trying to build my triceratops for your barbarian mad dog build and the triceratops cannot get ANY of these feats. It doesn't have the dex OR the int for ANY of these. Do I just not level at all until I'm able to pick these feats? That build guide doesn't explain
it at all so I'm just stuck.

Can you load up your save and check how many attacks do Velociraptor have at max level?

I read somewhere that he gets 8 attacks/round and that he attacks with his TAIL(?!) 3 times and then again 3 times and then 1 bite and 1 claw?
But in other places it says he gets 1 bite and 2 claws only?

To tell the truth - video showing all pets on level 20 and naked - showing their stats and number of attacks and types of attacks would be great as that is what it is missing in Pathfinder WoTR community now - a video showing all the pets for people like me that are about to just start playing the game and plan to create a minimum of 6 heroes to finish the game and get all the achievements - because there are different builds and ways to get pets I really need to know the stats and attacks numbers and what body pieces they are using for attacks.

Right now Dog, Wolf, Velociraptor, Smilodon, Giant Centipede are the 5 that I am interested in ;)

@cRPG Bro do you know why I can't see my animal companions in the team lineup down the bottom. Clicking on them and pressing 'c' just loads the character sheet of my last selected main companion so I am unable to level any of my animal companions up.

Edit: If anyone is wondering the answer to this the pet can be accessed at the bottom of the owner's character portrait on the party line up at the bottom of the screen.

Is there any way to make Siila's horse a DD instead of tank (my Siila is a tank by herself)?
