Gigabyte BIOS update | step-by-step

Hello ... i have gigaybite z690 pro and when i try to update the bios from qflash it stoped and a massege appear said ur current bios outdated and it stop ..could u help ?

Hi, I'm terrified about doing this because I'm on version F23d on my AB350M-Gaming 3 motherboard and there are so many versions to download apart from that, there are also some chipset downloads I seem to need to install as well since it appears that it's required for some versions. Can you show me the order in which I should download everything to get to the latest version? My goal is to be able to install the new AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, so if I manage to make this successfully I would go ahead and buy the new CPU.

As much as I love CPU-Z you don't need that to tell you the model of your motherboard and what BIOS you have; you can use the Windows utility dxdiag. Type dxdiag in a search or Run prompt. It's got a lot of other nice information about your version of Windows and hardware including your graphics card. I don't see many tech videos mentioning this anymore.

I have a question, since windows thinks I have a different motherboard than I really do (thats what im trying to fix), will that make something go wrong in the bios update and brick motherboard?

my bios update came with instructions when i unzipped it. it had a pdf file that told me to update the bios in efi shell mode. what does that mean

It will not find my storage drive

What hung my system was leaving in the thumb drive after I seen the splash screen. Your powering down and turning it on did the trick thanks.

I have a z390 Aorus Ultra and in the Q-Flash\File there’s a tab that pans down and says A:Unknown device for all my drives, and in the right side panel none of the files are the BIOs update I put on my thumbdrive… Am I doing something wrong?

Edit: Nvm, just had to repartition my Flash Drive and it all worked out

I pick the right bios file but my bios give me immediately the error when i hit the install button bios update unsuccessful , i tried everything i need to update the bios for windows 11 .... Z370p 3D

You only need the latest BIOS unless stated in the description section for each BIOS which in that case update to that BIOS first then to the latest.

I could've swore there were more steps involved or is that if you're flashing a BIOS using BIOS flashback without a CPU?

wait... I thought you needed a thumb drive for the "flashing" process... whatever the heck that is. I've watched about 5 videos and ALL of them talk about using a thumb drive for the flashing process... but it looks like the only reason you were wanting to use a thumb drive was so you could drag and drop some update files onto your computer. Is that literally, ALL it's needed for?! I'm so confused...

I keep getting checksum error for my b660 gaming x ! cant upgrade it F21 or F22! i think i need a 12th gen cpu on that board to update cause i have 13th installed atm!

My bios version is f1, i have no problems with it but should i update bios one by one until the latest version or the latest version contains all fixes from previous versions ???

q flash is great and all but alot of manufacturers have taken most of the work out of updating your bios by offering an update via internet option so nobody can brick there boards by mistake yes things can happen but id make sure my internet was stable before using internet option why gigabyte doesnt offer the option i dont understand

Hello! As I have never updated a BIOS before, I am really concerned by the text on Gigabytes website stating that Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction. Should I seek proffesional help with this? Since I have a Z590 AORUS XTREME motherboard which is giving me problems with RAM speeds (support for my current RAM was added in later updates and there is also a Major vulnerabilities update).

But do those BIOS updates to ´fix vulneratibilities´, claiming the user won´t be able to roll back to previous BIOS versions, apply to BOTH the current as well as back-up BIOS? What if people have DUAL BIOS? Will this forcefully update BOTH?

This sounds riskier than the vulnerabily issue itself. I have the original bios and this update could not only mess with my BIOS, rendendering the motherboard useless, but also deny me the safety of a dual-BIOS feature.

What do i do if i can't check my current bios. I tried doing a safe boot on my pc and its just stuck in an infinite boot cycle. I have tried clearing the CMOS, but it didn't work. So i will try Q-flashing a bios update.

I have built a couple pc's before but have never updated the BIOS. I have ordered a new CPU and memory for my current PC. I have a Gigabyte
GA-AX370M-DS3H motherboard. And my BIOS version is F21 Dated 02/08/2018. There are about 10 more recent versions of the BIOS on their website.

First time builder here, I have decided to opt for the i5-12400F cpu with the Gigabyte B660 DS3H mobo.
Do I need to update the bios as the first thing I do before installing the CPU or anything else?
Also, the current bios version on the gigabyte website is F21 (2022/11/18) - do I always update to whatever the latest version is?
