Can you run the qnap as a usb drive when needed? I want the NAS capabilities as secondary to simply a large fast direct attached storage. I can't find this answer anywhere!

Thank you so much!!! I was wondering why the drive backup option never showed up every time I plugged in my external HDD. It was an app this whole time!

Hi, just attempting this but as others have mentioned, HBS 3 has changed the interface and for the life of me I cannot find how to back up to USB !

Would recommend that you redo this as HBS 3 has, IMO, a significant change in the interface.

Rob, OK 2 is and 1 is none. Got it. The HBS App Version 3, I downloaded today has some great features as you showed us and but is organized quite differently. Looks like a nice App upgrade. The HBS "Storage Spaces" GUI shows local and other NAS, local drives, Cloud Back-up services, etc. That is just an incredible. Thanks for showing us some of the strong functions of the HBS app.
OK my Synology DS-218+ has been left in the dust compared to the QNAP TS-253D. Both great devices but QNAP is in the lead for sure. thanks again.

I can't seem to find this option anymore. I want to backup the contents of my NAS to an external hard drive. Hybrid Backup Sync has been replaced with HBS 3 and I don't see the same options as shown in this video. HBS 3 does not seem to offer the option to back up to an external hard drive.

Any chance this is possible over the thunderbolt 3 connections? I have a large thunderbolt 3 raid id love to use as a backup to my nas.

Hey Robbie, first of all thank you for your videos about setting up the QNAP NAS System. They were very helpful. I did encounter a question during setting up a complete backup with the Hybrid Backup Solution. When selection which folders to chose for backing up the complete NAS i essentially selected all the folders that are shared and important to me e.g. the homes folder and a separate shared folder which is a time machine backup target. However selecting and deselecting that TM shared folder increased the required storage capacity even though the folder does lie below the homes folder anyway - as it is a folder from a user created on that nas. Is the Backup then actually twice backing up that shared folder or is it only a display error. Hope you can help? If you need further infos just let me know. All the best!

Greetings from Canada. I am really enjoying your videos. I have a QNAP TS-420 and have been looking for instructions on managing this great toolset. You, my friend, have supplied exactly what I need. It seems you understand exactly the types of issues that mere mortals need help with most. Kudos to you. Very clear and straight forward without a lot of umming and aahing. Awesome and Thank you

Love your vids mate! Just purchased and setup the Qnap 453BT3 and really love it. The only thing I can't figure out is that when the 1 Gig Ethernet cable is plugged into my router, and the Thunderbolt cable is plugged in my 27" and I want to transfer files, it is not transferring over Thunderbolt but over Ethernet! Why is that? Do I need to create a Virtual Switch? Jeff

Would be nice if you discussed how to copy files from a WD MyCLOUDEX2Ultra to a QNAP TS-431P, Is it possible to connect the 2 devices via USB?

Do you know if QNAP supports drives formatted in Apples APFS new default file system? I tried connecting a drive formatted to a new QNAP nas and it wouldn’t recognize the drive.
