OUBEY - Encounter 20 - Prof. Karl Sigmund (English)

The research field of Prof. Karl Sigmund is focused on those mathematical issues, OUBEY was passionate about during his lifetime. This includes the investigation of the long-term behavior of complex dynamic systems using the metric measurements and probability theorem methods (ergodic theory). Occasionally he is known for his development of the evolutionary game theory. Besides he is member of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Since 2003 he is also member of the Leopoldina. In 2006, a readers’ poll of the Austrian daily newspaper “Die Presse” and the “ORF” voted him Austrian of the Year in the Research category.

He encountered a completely unknown painting by an artist he’d never heard of and explored a very lively painting – full of wilderness and movement. During the encounter it transforms into balance and symmetry. He sees something with no human or familiar structures – a sight into a distant corner of the universe.
