The "book" that came with Shogun: Total War shaped the way I thought about life as a teen lol. The way of the Samurai and the Art of War!

Everything was good until Warhammer came out. DLC's with no end in sight, one game just being an upgrade to the other, CA got lost in greed

Shogun was my first Total War game, I really loved it!

But Shogun 2 is a masterpiece, I still play it almost everyday, the game is still very hard to beat in legendary mode.

I need empire II

An evolution from an interesting strategy game, to a great strategy game, to peak balance and gameplay and graphics, then because of a shift in ownership, into a mess of cinematic graphics that are not good for gamplay, and an increase in bugs, to over monetisation, to becoming a hero arena battle game with no strategy left. Truly a human arch from naive early game, to trendy teen, into its prime, beginning to panic in its 30s, midlife crisis, and then losing its mind from having to survive and give up what made it unique to the capitalist machine it lived under.

Empire Total war is just pure perfection.

Rome Remastered seemed like a bit of a halfbaked job visually.

Spartan: total warrior

Total war games: Im starting to feel that there's too many of them, and they don't innovate sufficiently between generations. They keep reproducing the same mistakes. I still absolutely loved Empire and Napoleon esp with darthmod. City assaults have always sucked in these games. And I'm surprised they've never made a 40k one, but I assume thats on games workshop.

I played Medieval Total War when it came out. My pc was too bad to run the actual battles so i had to auto resolve those and play strategy mode only. Still super fun and addicting game, the music and the sound effects made the game really immersive. This game sparked my interest in history

Rome Total War was also super impressive, it made it possible to show realistic looking and full scale armies in 2004

I think even though it’s not as important as a lot of other wars, they should add a mongol invasion dlc to shogun 2. I just think it would make an amazing game

Think it peaked right around Shogun 2 although Rome 2 was pretty good

I was in another country for consultancy work. I said why not an hour Rome 2 break in the night. Fast forward to morning, I was texting my manager for a dayoff.

Why the focus on ancient times? We need more Empire and Napoleon!

With the graphical upgrades the game looks incredible. Still, the better the graphics look the more each flaw stands out, such as when the individual soldiers move in complete sync. The developers could have spent less time on graphics and more time on mechanics. Sieges stand out. As a defender, it seems like a major focus should be on when to abandon one wall and move the defense further in. It could actually be that an attacker could win a single battle only by capturing a wall. They would then have to rest and wait for another turn to capture the next, giving the defender a chance to bring a relief force.

Crazy to think that the time between Rome 1 and Rome 2 is less than the time between Rome 2 and now.

Remastered Rome would greatly benefit from an extensive modification, like Europa Barbarorum.. :) :) And I'd love to see a Medieval themed one as well (just can't get enough of Byzantium)

I would have included Barbarian Invasion in the list. Technically, it's an expansion of Rome: Total War, but it felt to me like a new member in the game series. You had new religion issues to manage, "people in flight" events, and generally the orientation of the game was different; instead of expanding a small starting position, you're defending a sprawling but weak empire (if you play as one of the Roman factions.)

Medieval 2 is still my favorite game by far. It was so crisp, so fun, so well made.
