I only buy Hope brakes. Everything else is flimsy crap.

That’s how brakes are supposed to work. It wasn’t modulation it’s the braking power and you just pulled the lever too hard. If they didn’t have modulation it would be hard to slow down without skidding.

I did it but shimano cable IS a multilayer magura not. Better performance with shimano cable.

Just put on a cheap set of mt200 and i really dont like them, figured they would be better than cable but not really, they're loud and chattery and make a ton of noise before locking up, I've blead them, ive sanded the pads and cleaned the rotors but no luck, think im going back to cable

I made a set of "sramano" brakes. I used Shimano BL-M6100 levers and a set of sram DB8 calipers. Wicked powerful and cheap ! Mix and match for the win! If you have these parts ( any shimano levers will do).

I have a cheap Shimano MT200 lever and Magura MT5 and MT4 calipers. Does this only work on the high end stuff or entry level as well?

Mixing Shimano levers and Magura calipers is actually so 2000-s. I remember times when Magura Marta SL levers used to start leaking after some time and Shimano levers were quite bombproof and at first was experimenting just for fun. And it really worked. The modulation and braking power was totally something else.

Ok. What about Magura and ultegra? I have heard of people mixing road levers and mtn calipers, but I cant find videos on it.

I had the exact same shigura setup, broke a lever and switched back to full magura, used steel braided brake hoses and adjustable Oak root-lever pros... it's a little more expensive, but I like that setup the most so far. You can set it up to have full brake power in like 3mm of lever travel.

Vicosity dude, using BIONOL on a mineral Oil FrankenBrake system. You Might as well used TRP's OIL instead also has higher boiling point.

Maximas? I bought the new TRP DH-R EVO, & I regret it. The Brakes suck, & are not as good as I expected, Got a bad Caliper and bad Rotor, so I am waiting for repair and replacement. I wish I had gone MT7 PRO with Shimano Levers.

I ride angelfire and have ridden saints XT 4 pots and magura MT 7.
After many years I have finally settled with a saint lever & MT 7
