For those surprised by how advanced, almost native, his French is, back in the 1940s and during the time of the Egyptian monarchy prior to 1952, Egyptian aristocracy spoke French all the time, and at a very highly advanced level. They spoke French not only in school but also at home.
In Omar’s case, although Arabic is his mother tongue, he tended to speak French with his parents in order for servants not to understand what they were saying.
English came along a few years later, when his mother decided to send him to Victoria college, a top British school in Alexandria, Egypt. This explains why, although almost a native English speaker, he always felt way more comfortable conversing in French or Arabic.

His pronunciation and accent is the great thing about all the languages he speaks 👍🏻
