Ballistic computers in war go back even further--mechanical or analog computers for artillery fire control were already ubiquitous (and necessary) on oceangoing warships in the first half of the 20th century. Hitting a moving target from a moving target at distances where the curvature and rotation of the Earth are significant factors is astronomically unlikely otherwise

And just like the fear of soviet first strike, the war on terror was similarly unfounded and also resulted in the deaths of millions of innocent people in the name of "american defense"

The legend is that Alan Turing killed himself by injecting arsenic into an apple and then taking a bite out of it.
The fact however is that it's just a legend and Touring had a habit of eating an apple before going to bed. The apple he had taken a bite out of was never tested for poisons and the work he did at home exposed him to accidental poisoning. There was also no indication that he was planning suicide.

What I find most entertaining about Ahoy's content is that he sounds like the typical "journalist voice" you'd hear in an actual BBC documentary, except he talks about subjects people actually care about.

When i was about 6, Tetris had been released in the US. It was a gift for a lot of people that following Christmas including my friends and I. A few months later, our parents found out it was a Soviet-made game and thew my copy away. They even convinced my friends' parents to do the same. We had other games for Atari and weren't attached to it. Just a weird thing really.

Even if you take disasters into account, coal power has caused far more death than nuclear power, while solar and wind power have a tiny output and an often disruptive environmental imprint. The use and storage of nuclear material has been a solved problem for decades, and it is our best hope to combat climate change without sacrificing technological society. All of the toxic, radioactive ash and sludge that coal plants have produced would require ten-thousand Mt. Yuccas to contain.

RIP Alan Turing. Your contributions changed the war and saved arguably the whole world itself with your contributions. Your people did you so terribly, may your soul rest in glory and in paradise, Mr. Turing.

6 years later, a 4 year military contract during that, and I just got what Ahoy meant by the "foo" "bar" slides at the beginning. And I have to say, it's spelled "FUBAR" not "foobar." It's an acronym, after all. (I'm sure Ahoy knows this, this is more so for the randos that wander into this video)
