Coming Back Home After 3 Years In Thailand, here are my thoughts

Hi, Forrest! I’m a Thailand “wannaliveabee” who for the time being lives in Hawaii. I vacation in SE Asia whenever I can and hope to live there someday. Prices in Hawaii are insane. When I first moved here in 2006, an average bowl of pho at a decent Vietnamese place would run $6.99 or so. Now it’s close to three times that on average. A plate of the same pad ka prow that would cost a buck and a half in Bangkok…can’t find that for under $20. Wish I could retire to Thailand or Malaysia now. Gotta wait at least a decade or so.

Facts on that. I came to Santa Monica in 08 and things have change a lot since then. I'm on my way out.. In California the Homeless and Criminals get better treatment than the tax payers. If your a hard working person here in California, YOU are paying for what we call, (Homeless Tourism). People that land in California just to be homeless.

I left CA a few years ago as they wouldn't let go of their political stuff and found normalcy here in TX. We were just middle class but got lucky with the real estate boom 2014-2020. Took that money with us when we left. I'm not sure how the younger generation is going to make it now? Our condo was 2.4m. Crazy!

I'll be 62 next year and SEAsia is calling. Thailand looks so good. I can't really imagine it, so I'm going to have two homes for at least the first few years.

you are 100% correct! US is going down hill fast! The worst parts are the expensive and broken American healthcare, endless lawyer ads or billboards and ridiculous drug commercials that are super annoying. The cost of living in American is super expensive and not worth it anymore. The cost of food is triple compared to the rest of the world. America is a very violent place and the law enforcement is weak and won’t enforce the basic laws because they are scared to get sued for fake stupid reasons. Try robbing or killing someone in another country and they will put you in prison for ten years or execute you quickly. America has turned into a communist banana republic and everyone knows it and has left or is leaving.

I never made a lot of money in California but was really smart with the money I did make. Inflation has been a minimal factor but the home equity and stock gains have been incredible for a segment of the population. I have never been assaulted or robbed in California either, just pointing out the fact that this isńt as dire as the video points out. There are people here that their net worth has exploded. Some of us California peeps are thriving bro. Bottom line one has to be really smart with the decisions they make, it makes a impressionable difference.

The constant bashing on several episodes is wild. I love Thailand (heck, all of Asia) and Europe, and there is still countless beauty to be experienced in the US. There is no need to bash to elevate Thail. It's lazy reporting and classic Cali expats (I am from SoCal). Do better, as you seem to have a decent command of storytelling. Tell the full story, as it will serve more people.

I was just in Thailand for a month and I knew by the time I landed in LAX that the people were just so divided, angry, and out for themselves. The price of everything is out of control, I loved being in Thailand and the ignorance is bliss was so real when I was traveling

I go back to California every year to see family.
I literally count the days until I can get back to SE Asia.
But I don't talk to them about it. It's a boiling frog situation. Most really don't see how bad things have gradually become.

There's know life here only work and bills, A very low vibration. No Love in America.

I luv Thailand and have been visiting since 1999. I could only live there for a few months in winter not all year. I need my mountains for air sports and skiing. I escaped from LA MB area back in 2011 to Spain saw the city going to the toilet back then. Best choice I ever made for my family. I do miss Thailand and watch all the videos. Going to Indonesia and Vietnam this December with family. LA is a total sh!thole now I grew up there and lived all over the city. I can't believe what is going on there. My parents also sold their house in LA and moved to Spain too.

when you're in America they really make people believe outside America isn't "safe" but once you travel you come to realize America is the most unsafe place!... Physical safety and spending money safety 😅

Right there with you brother. I just got back to America after visiting Thailand for 3 weeks. It's a big eye opener how f'd up the states are compared to Thailand. I've only been back for 1 week and already looking to purchase a condo in Thailand so I can leave this shithole called America

Not just California, it's the entire United States. Mass shootings, school shootings, inflation and high food prices, unaffordable healthcare (medical bankruptcy is one leading forms of bankruptcy), no to little work/ life balance and corporations dictating more from American workers, all kinds of crime, crazy home prices locking out new & younger homebuyers, politicial insanity and division. What you said about people just "exisisting", barely getting by and in survival mode is sadly true (I think a lot of Americans are depressed and stressed out these days) The US unfortunately seems like a sinking ship in general.

Being born and raised in America, I've hated it for such a long time. So much racism, segragation, crimes, murders, kidnappings, etc. But for some odd reason you only hear Americans talk about how bad it is in other countries but it the worst in America. Also I love how White American always blame every other race about abusing the government benefits when in reality that stats show White Americans are the ones who leverage the system the most. Some odd reason they believe only White people should have access to the system. I can't wait to move out. Only a few months from today :)
