How Expensive is it to Travel Japan?

The great thing about travelling to Japan is that you have plenty of options so expenses can vary depending on how you budget. It is surprisingly cheaper than what I expected. I ended up spending my money on mangas and gifts/souvenirs for family and friends.

I just cashed out $1790 US to Yen and I got like over $2k for a 2 week trip. Sometimes I feel like I took out too much and other times I feel like I took out just enough. I am going to be eating out/ snacking so I think I should blow through it, I am traveling with my family

Just back from my first trip to Japan. Food was really amazingly affordable. As the first person interviewed mentioned, 15 dollars USD gets you a really good (not fancy but really nice) dinner. 15 dollars on the West coast or the urban NorthEast gets you... McDonald's or maybe a very modest diner if you don't have a beverage other than a soft drink or water. And the urban trains in Tokyo were really inexpensive. Short rides were barely a dollar and even longer 6-7 stop rides were barely 3 dollars. I was amazed how far my Yen went.

I went 3 times to Japan and travelling from Switzerland its not that expensive. Except the flight (600 to over 1k).
Food and activities are quite cheap for what I'm used to. Accomodation can naturally vary a lot depending on what you want. Hotel with an onsen or just a bed to sleep? Trains/Shinkansen are similar, but that's not exactly cheap...

I would budget 100 usd per day, just to be safe.

Japan is expensive but If you are in budget you can easily find cheap food and accommodation... I was on budget and had a great trip in the most beautiful and friendliest country in the world..I'll be back there for sure..
