You should reach out to Cole Mulvey, he has built a bunch of HC motors. He is always willing to answer questions.

Wow to see something happen exactly the same way with same motor in same scenario is awkward 😳! But its was for my sons hatch and not exactly which of 2 mistakes or maybe both, but ran d15b7 pistons and did ring check but didn't use bottom of cylinder since crank was still in place but piston was out top of block about 1/16 of an inch but rings according to what min gap was rings fell lil less than half of range for new rings but possibly due to compression which fell in the 11:3:1 since used d15b7 gasket with y8 head but resulted in same outcome ring lands broke and only only in 1 cylinder which is weird if they all was done same way, but at it again this time ran .024 second and .022 on top stock bore

Since the nock off ones have higher compression the ring gaps should be to the right spec for the YCP pistons! Way better quality means longer lasting!

Would you recommend boosting a d16 with high compression pistons?

That was your problem. Your middle/2nd ring should be atleast .004 largger than your your 1st. And being factory states .012 your 2nd should have been atleast .016

Stop using ycp straight up. Run a higher priced but effective piston

Ycp is Amazon shit but keep the block and run good pistons that are machined to fit and you'll see a world of difference trust me that's what we do now

I see you use the original rods, is there anything to do to get it work?
Or can you just press the pins out, heat up the rod and put it together with the new piston???
