Interesting video. I was seeing plenty of videos pop-up about how gret arc is and I was curious but it's good to have something about arc that doesn't sounds just like a hidden ads.

For me there's 2 things in their privacy policy that made me back down on trying it.
- Firstly, how they talk about the facts that they may change their policy anytime: "We’ll do our best to get these updates in front of you, however, the ball’s ultimately in your court to read and understand them. If you continue to use the product we’ll assume the updates are good with you." Technically they are right, it's always our responsability to check, but at the same time they perfectly know that almost no one will actually read it. To me that's read: we are planning to make changes and if you don't like it fuck-you

- Secondly, how they answer to Under what condition will we share your personal data? "If there’s a change in company ownership such as a merger, acquisition, or bankruptcy, your data may be transferred to the new controlling party. Should one of these events occur, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you". Again, technically they are right and a change of ownership can have consequences. But to me reasonable efforts means the very minimum to respect the legal obligations and more importantly, the fact that they already state that they could be bought by someone else while they are basically just starting to grow simply means that it's already their plan.

Thousands of videos such as this one and key developers having the right contacts for magazine and media coverage might be the key to success 🤩 If I must have space I'll just hit F11 for full screen. I keep things basic. The extra features have been around for some time via extensions in other browsers. Vertical bookmarks which most browsers can do may be enough for some too to lessen the space used at the top of a screen. More features incorporated by default is a nice idea, but I think in the long run the browser will be analysed most in relation to security.

1) Please don't tutorialize how to use something by default. If anything, this should be an option. I rather be flooded with all the info with an easy way to close it when I'm done, than get random inserts and popups as I'm using the thing. It's not my first video game, I don't need to know WASD is used to move. It's also not my first browser, and it's not THAT different that I need help hidden behind actualization
2) Bluesky tried the exclusivity thing, and it backfired. Now people who haven't received an invite are just done waiting and don't even go to Bluesky to follow their favs. I'm hoping Arc did it right, and didn't starve the public. looks at website NOPE, they have STILL a waiting list. Right out the gate I refuse to twitch to some piece of software that wants people to wait or hunt down an invite code from a friend in order to use it.

I feel like this browser is just bloated for the sake of it, sure some people may find it cool to have that many features but personally if I use a browser I just want to download files, extensions, access websites, bookmark websites, the usual stuff

of course I like customization, I used yandex browser a bit, I really liked bottom tabs but yandex is probably not a very good company, but its very weird to see a random company with some name like that pop out of thin air

Nah, nah
Android's pen functions already let's me preview stuff before I click, I've been using Opera and it works for me. Only thing that would be worth it for would be the split screen in the same app, but opera does the different workspaces already, helps me organize things
Just make it so I can open these in a split screen I guess, with a max of 4 maybe even 6-8 consecutive ones maybe, boom that'd maximize multi-tasking for research purposes

Prior to Arc, I did a lot of "nasty" stuff to my Firefox to get somewhere near the basic functionality of Arc. When I finally got my invite, I was not too excited to get into yet another browser *sigh*. But I gave it a spin and yeah! It really shines with a very thoughtful design combined with an overall good performance (chromium) and surprises were consistently positive.
To confirm: for me, it was effective to introduce the features piecemeal to learn about functionality I often did not care about – and for the most part still don’t. It was still fun. As wonderful as Arc may be as a tool, I did not try to convince any peers to get it, though. It is a bit of a leap and people tend to be attached to their browser as much as to their bikes, cars, kitchen knifes, underwear, …. However, their communication is quite on point for the tech audience: there is a silly celebration of new features and, importantly, they are often introduced by the seemingly approachable team/devs.
That said, it would be quite hard for me to go back to another browser since Arc really grew on me. I guess, I would pay for it.
I also see another angle: if you have a team and a method, which is capable do a major overhaul of something as "boring" as a browser: what could they do to user interfaces of other apps?! The company name is very specific about their vision, but still, such a stunt should open a lot of doors.

To clarify, it appears that the functionality provided by Boost to personalize websites harks back to the era of MySpace customization. Notably, these modifications are intended for the individual's experience rather than the aesthetic appeal of one's MySpace page for visitors, which is a considerable distinction.

Regrettably, I am currently obliged to patiently await the release of the Windows version, yet the prospects of the Boost feature intrigues me. As a potential tool for user experience research, its utility would be substantially amplified if data on user customizations were accessible to website owners. Understanding which aspects are altered, by whom, how they are modified, and whether these changes are enduring could reveal patterns of user interaction and preference. These insights could be exceedingly valuable for advancing product development, offering the kind of information that typically incurs substantial research costs.

Should ARC opt to capitalize on this (if they aren't already), there exists an opportunity to create a new revenue stream. By monetizing the insights gleaned from user-driven customizations and providing this data to website, application, or experience owners, ARC could command a significant fee. This fee would presumably be more economical than the expenses these entities would incur to acquire comparable data through contemporary testing methodologies.

It baffles me how you made a video explaining how google search got worse and worse over the years mainly due to financial incentives, and then suggest companies paying arc to feature their products as defaults would be a good way of monetization. Companies would keep pressuring arc into making it nearly impossible to replace the defaults with user preferences.

But the main problem is that there's no way of user and worker friendly monetization in capitalism

FUD
ARC is Closed Source, it is NOT free.
It also requires signing up with email to download it.This browser is NOT free or privacy focussed.

Top choices still remain Firefox and possibly Brave in a pinch.... and remember, there's not even a plan to support Linux, and the browser is likely to get AI shoe-horned into it...

Hard pass from me. Nobody should switch from Firefox to ARC.
