I have a fear of empty snail shells

Did the Native Snail population recover, or did this senseless act of environmental destruction send this particular species of snail into local or regional extinction? this method and others very similar, truly makes me wonder if the egyptians made their blocks out of cement or concrete type of mixtures instead the common belief that they carved them. Would it be easier to bake the shells in a pot, or do they need to be in contact with the charcoal, or is it that a clay pot would not survive the temperatures or get hot enough inside?

just in case you didnt know, here in europe we used lime to paint our basements and fasads and such, it is suposed to prevent molding (at leasst to some extent) we also used lime with wood (that was burned afterword) to build our houses, it makes a really cozy little hut that is black and white striped (stripe number depended on how thick your wood logs were) if you google "stará roubenka" (which means something like old wooden house) you should see what i mean
