I hate when people argue that these guns or cartridges aren't accurate. Sure grouping at 1000 yards isn't that of more modern rounds but would it kill at range? Of course it would. Yes with modern stuff you can get out even further with great accuracy but these were still very deadly at range and stunningly accurate for what it is

Didn’t LRB made a M25 w/ picatinny rail intergrated on top of the receiver instead of a side mount? That’s the only one I know of, the one without a side mount. Thx, great shooting really. Love the rifle too!

Getting close to how we shoot the M-21. I see you made your custom check pad/riser, good. I can see that your spine is nearly in a straight line with the rifle. Shooting this way will strain your neck muscles after 10-20 minutes because you should have your head naturally laying on the check riser almost if it was a pillow. To allow for this, your spine should be at about 30 degrees off line from the line of sight of the rifle. We use either our fist or a squeeze sock (sock with some sand in it) to support the butt of the rifle. The “cradle” affect allows you to use minimal muscles to gain good sight alignment. I used the M-21 with a early ART scope and was able to engage targets at 1,000 yards and could achieve head shots at that range. It took a lot of practice to be able to shoot like that and I was 21 years old at the time which was 37 years ago, long before I retired from the Army (11H/B). The ARt scope worked great but only had 4 power and I trusted my partner to call good wind. The .308 likes to zigzag to the target (very slightly) because the wind conditions will change every 300 yards so you have to calculate hold off on the fly then tell the shooter exactly when to fire and if there’s no shot after 5-6 seconds, shot is canceled and new wind hold off is determined. To get better at shooting the M-21 we were doing trigger drills for a couple hours each morning and afternoon and even watching Tv back in my barracks room while in a shooting position.
The stock riser is important to have at the right height, we cut up a couple of GI issue brown towels into 6”x6” squares and stacked 2 or 3 each time then tape the edges to the rifle stock (on the comb of the stock) then repeated until I had a natural alignment through the scope that didn’t require me to use any neck muscles to have a centered scope alignment. So if we ever had to change shooters or use a different rifle, we removed the riser pad as one unit then put it on again when needed. We’d use an empty plastic milk container to put the sticky part of the 100 mph tape against so we didn’t damage it, sometimes we’d have to apply a new piece of tape to better secure the riser. But take the riser very seriously, it affects things a lot.
Thank you for the video, I appreciate the tie you took to discuss an old tool I used.

Excellent shooting! 1980 I graduated Police Counter-Sniper School at MTU# 1 at Fort Meade, Md. We were using the vintage M-21 Springfield with the Redfield 3 x 9 Art II scope. They were all post Vietnam M-21s and serviced by a Master Armorer. My spotter and I spent some hot summers and cold winters on roof tops and other points of overlook advantage points. Thankfully, I never was forced to engage a threat to the President or other heads of state or VIPs in the Washington D.C. Metro area. As you know, shooting is a perishable skill unless you practice and practice. I have a vintage scoped M1A in my firearms collect to this day. It's still a joy to shoot it long range, relax and hear the bullet tink that steel waay off in the distance. Thank you for your video. Again, good shooting.

I have been working on my m1a standard that I almost turned it into a n/m rifle except barrel and the reason that I left the barrel is so I can put a scout mount on it and I just did ,with a 2-7 scout scope on and it's awesome! I might do a video because no one has done this yet.

We all can agree that a M14 is only as good as the tuning job. An untuned M14 is known for throwing fliers - about as accurate as minute of barn door. The problem is the M14 needs an overhaul every 500 rounds to keep then tuned. This is why the AR10 based semiautomatic snipers are superior and consistently accurate.

Opps Wishfull thinking, I mistook the M3 scope minus turret caps for the Ultra M2 scope with turret caps. ultra M2 was tested for use but not adopted for M25, it wasn’t a scope meant for constant BDC adjustment but rather had a Xmastree reticle
