ОтветитьYou misspelled jewelry.
ОтветитьI've heard foliage mispronounced as "foil-age" too.
ОтветитьIt would be, "MAY I ask you a question?"

ОтветитьThank you!!! Coupon drives me nuts!
It is derived from the French word couper, which means to cut!! It should NEVER have a “Q” in it!!!
I've tried to tell some of my people about the word Often. They would just look at me as if I was nuts and laugh. I would say "The letter T is silent" to no avail.
I learned this from my old Catholic School English teacher, way back when the 🦖🦕 walked on earth. (The 1970s. 😂).
Also "Tuesday" not Toosday.
Then, there's my personal pet peeve;
Tesses instead of, Tests or Exams. 🤦♀️
Please share your pronunciation findings/source for February. I couldn’t locate your example. Thanks.
ОтветитьSome people always associate “ask” as “aks” with black people. However, I was raised in the south and whites say it too. I learned that it has nothing to do with misrepresentation, but that immigrants from certain parts of the UK pronounce their dialect as “aks”. Slaves would have picked up the pattern if speech from these immigrants. Actress Jane Seymour talked about this on television once.
ОтветитьI TOLD my husband it was not “a-crost”!! And he’s a highly intelligent nan. I think it was the influence of local linguistics.
