Vid 87 sounds like The Sparrow and one of the first stories in "Overruled", a SF comedy book of short stories that have to do with lawyers and court (yeah, I know). But both are still pretty great.

The Story about the USS Maddox being sunk is not true at all. The USS Maddox was sold to Taiwan in 1973 after it was decommissioned in 1972.

omg hecklefish had me rolling on global warming.
