here in 2023 waiting for Alice asylum

Being able to shrink whenever, to find secrets, was just tedious and made going tiny not feel special. Shrinking should have been tied to a food or potion and only once in a while.

I thought the first game was better

I genuinely didn't expect this video game to be mostly about child sex trafficking in the end... holy shit that's terrifying.

I just realized that Takuto Maruki is who Bumby would have been if he’d been a half decent person.

It’s sad really how Alice asylum will not be a thing and McGee will no longer work in the gaming industry😔couldn’t they have chosen another company to work with? Can’t we do something about it like giving it more recognition?

I always loved this version better, because it really goes by the standards of reality.

This game is not worth what it's going now for.. maybe $5 to 10 max. Gameplay trash. I just got it for $35 last week. I'm very disappointed

Okay, so, the story is super vague and confusing, so as far as I'm aware, let me break it down as best I can.

In the real world, Dr. Bumby was in love with Alice's older sister Lizzie, but she hated him and rejected him. At some point, he snuck into the Liddel home (Alice's home), raped and killed Lizzie, and burned the building to the ground.

Alice was able to luckily survive, but she was traumatized and went, to put it mildly, mad. She was afflicted with PTSD and admitted into Rutledge Asylum, where she was mistreated on the regular and where the doctors basically just made her mental state worse, not better.

In the original game, American McGee's Alice, she goes into Wonderland - the embodiment of her imagination and mental state - and fights the Queen of Hearts, who embodies the hysteria and insanity that Alice is currently going through.

The Queen is subdued and reduced to a sort of lingering back-memory, which is why the Queen in this game describes being dethroned and bereft of her power.

So her madness is still there - it's just more manageable.

Since her mental state was stabilized, she was released from the Asylum and managed to get a room in Dr. Bumby's orphanage. She was still dealing with traumatic memories of the fire, and now they're damaged since she's been gaslit by the wrong interpretation of what caused it.

So she talked to Bumby and tried to forget them altogether.

Bumby represents ruin in this game - the black oily monsters that have infested Wonderland, and the Infernal Train represents her growing forgetfulness - and by extension, madness. The Dollmaker runs the train - and he represents Bumby.

He's causing her another madness by making her forget crucial details about the fire, and has reignited her desperation to understand what really caused it. So she's drawn back into Wonderland, where she tries to sort out her mind - the consequences of failure are that she'll go completely insane, Wonderland will be wrecked, and she'll be sent back to Rutledge and never become sane again, as shown to her by the Queen.

She slowly starts to remember the things Bumby made her forgot, and ultimately realizes that he's the one who caused the fire. Ironic - his attempts at making her forget actually caused her to remember. So she goes to confront him.

She defeats the Dollmaker, which represents Bumby and his control over her. By doing this, she develops the nerve to turn around, and push Bumby into an oncoming train.

She isn't actually wearing her blue dress - Bumby is afraid because she has the look of a killer in her eyes, someone confident and in control. The Alice in Wonderland was who she wished she could be - but now it is actually her, she is that woman.

After that, she tries to go back into Wonderland, but the path is blocked and Cheshire speaks of her being unable to return home, and how hard it is for delusions to die.


So, there are a few interpretations of this ending. Here's my opinion of it.

Alice can't go back to Wonderland because she has grown up and no longer needs it. It's safe in her memory, even if it was damaged by Bumby and the fire.

The reason she sees London as Wonderland is because now that Bumby is dead and the prostitutes are freed, life in London will soon become much more bearable. She sees it as a decent place - an acceptable one - while her childhood fantasies remain safe in her brain.

Guess what friend we're all returning to madness again because Alice is coming back just check out the trailer Alice asylum.

It’s very bizarre to see a video game that’s basically “What if Alice in wonderland was darker” would have more mature themes than all of the Disney live action remakes.

When i was around 12, i always secretly wished to be like Alice. Guess i should've been careful what i wished for, or at least more specific. I ended up being diagnosed with epilepsy not long after i turned 13. leaving my head/memories in shambles for periods of time ever since then. Similarly to Alice herself. Life has a great sense of humour. 😅

Played it in begenning of my teenage, i think that Alice is why have crush on white black haired chicks. Such a beautiful and well writen character. I miss this game and being that young so much.

This game is old so the animation isnt very good, but it makes up for it in design and character! I cannot wait for asylum!!
