Some 3 000 people are currently hosted in Skaramangas, one of the refugee camps set up in Greece to give shelter to the thousands of people who have reached the country in recent months.
The European Commission has so far provided €83 million to address the humanitarian needs of refugees and migrants in Greece. This funding is supporting eight projects implemented by UN organisations and international NGOs. The priority is to provide appropriate shelter, drinking water and sanitation, primary health care and protection. In the Skaramangas camp, the Hellenic Red Cross has a medical centre and delivers dry food and hygiene kits every ten days.
The Commission has allocated up to €700 million for the period 2016-2018 to address the humanitarian needs triggered by the refugee crisis within the EU.
