I love this video, it's so helpful.
It's been years since I was fishing. I fell out of love with it, but motivated to restart. I'm from Kent. I'm looking at a new rod, you suggest upto 6 oz, I'm considering 8oz as I might fish dungeness which I remember being quite intense, so not sure if 6oz will be OK?? A penn tidal XR with matching reel comes to mind. I'm also starting lure/float fishing and have everything I need for that.
Please let me know your thoughts, and thanks again for your videos, your lagoon video was awesome too 👍

I went second time fishing since I was a child and i was going with my grandfather. I bought Shimano TX1 about £30 i think its carp rod and a massive Shimano Reel about £70. I spooled the first time some 15lb carp line Korda mono. When I was casting 100-gram weight the one that is for distance casting. It snapped and I heard the lead going fsssss near my ear somewhere.

For my second trip I bought 20-something lb Daiwa J Braid x4 dark green. In addition, I bought the sea rigs that you showed. I do not know how it happened but when I was pulling the line, I saw a massive knot on the braid. Took a while to sort it out. I managed to do one very good cast, the feeling is very nice once you get it right.

I am looking now to get a proper surf rod and reel. Do you know where, is the best spot to catch some big fish from beach or pier or sea wall in the area between Portsmouth and Dover? The first time I got 6 dogfish from the seawall Samphire Hoe. Delicious fish but nightmare to clean the skin, I used pliers… The second time I did not catch anything on West Arm the Marina in Brighton.

BTW Great videos!

Cool, you might want to keep rods in their own bags in the quiver. That will protect the rings and keep them in good nick. Glad to see you've got rid of that abomination with the broken tip. Another great vid.

I always take a bottle of fresh water and empty it over my braided spools on my reels before casting a good soaking stops those first cast wind knots

I'm new to your channel Matt and enjoying it very much. I have been sea fishing for about 40 years but there's always something to learn. I've been away from it for a couple of years but itching to get back to it now. Particularly interested in the bass lure fishing content as although I've had some good success over the years with bait fishing for bass, I've neglected the lures. Like many, this time of the year is a struggle for fishing in my area (Hampshire/Solent), so wishing the time away somewhat at the moment !. Keep up the good work.

When you were last fishing rods were manly colours , like black or charcoal . These days they are more flamboyant gay colours for the more discerning snowflake .

Nice, informative video for beginners.👏
Sometimes it's good to look at the basics and realise we've been sucked in and are overcomplicating our fishing.🤔😲
Thanks for sharing, take care and stay safe.😷🙊

Great stuff Matt. I have so much stuff that I rarely visit tackle shops, but when I do I can't but help to think how bewildering it must be for beginners. So much choice and So many products. Even hooks I really have to search to find what I want, and I know exactly what I want ......😆😆😆

I use to live in the house next to the bait shop you was in, in the 1960's you can go through the house without going into a room twice but the front door was note at the side it was at the front and it didn't have a bathroom it was a tin bath in the front room in front of the range
