I blame their dopamine addiction to their narcissistic social media habits and the fact that they care less about being educated because they see that you can get rich by simple attention seeking on the internet.

I guess the one contradiction I can think of is professional schools. From my own experience, MCAT scores have been rising, admissions has gotten more competitive, and classes have gotten harder. I've talked to some physicians and professors who say they wouldn't want to have to go through the process nowadays.

IDK, maybe the tails have just gotten fatter. There's more geniuses, but there's more idiots.

Something I've noticed about Zoomers is they are terrible texters too. They have this weird idea that texting someone back immediately means you are a loser. Chronically online but cant even text ppl back until 2 weeks go by and the convo is long dead. Makes no sense

Not knowing how many minutes are in an hour is not a problem with academics or even even education. This is something that is universally known around the world even by people who are completely illiterate. There's really no excuse for that.

How about the relationship between teachers and students? Or the way schools are structured?

A lot of teachers aren't trained properly to care about students' mental health. I'm gonna use myself as an example, I've been neglected by teachers to the point of not recognizing any symptoms of autism. The neglect combined with bullying caused depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
The reason why I didn't get good grades was that I didn't see a reason to live. I didn't have the mental energy to care about anything and just with through my life hollow.

Also, I'm confused on what you're arguing about. Are you saying most children should be able to remember every single subject matter even if it's not part of their daily lives?

I scored in the 93rd percentile of the nation in math when I was in middle school and now I feel like that I'm just of average intelligence from the 30s and 40s instead of being some high IQ genius.
Being the top student when the other 9 kids in class are delinquents doesn't really say all that much

I think perhaps with the Great Wall of China question, considering the trends of being asked a question on film, presuming it would be for social media they might have assumed it was some sort of trick question. Even I second guessed myself on hearing it but shortly deduced it would indeed be in China lol

1. Immigration
2. Democratization/a more narcissistic culture where the braind dead masses have more input whereas in the past culture was much more intellectually demanding in a top down way rather than a race to the bottom. Also social media otherwise
3. Dysgenics. Only # 3 because it's slower, but it's a more permanent/intractable problem

There is a fallacy of sorts though. As on the one hand, you can argue that some of the 'necessary' skills being taught are not essential anymore. When was the last time you actually wrote anything on paper? When was the last time you send an actual letter to someone?

Same with maths, do kids need to learn statistics if an app can do it for them? Why are we rejecting the aids we have been given. School, in general, should be completely reformed. You should treat it as a more social experience for young children and mostly engage in artists, cultural or philosophical thinking. AI will do all the financial, government, mathematical stuff. Humans need to be the thought experts.

So when kids are being challenged to look stupid in these ways, it's more like 'how often does a random person just come up to you and ask you something?' Probably not very much hence why people may be caught off guard.

All the vocations are mostly computer based anyway so them typing is much better than learning how to use a pencil. You could argue they lack in basic facts by who cares? As long as they know they can just look it up on their phones; they have all the crystallised knowledge in the world in their pocket.

I think it's a half and half type of issue. On one hand, yes more and more people have short attention spands due to tik tok and short form content. But on the other hand, there has never been more easily acessable information ranging all different learning mediums at such a low cost. I think we are just working with a broken system that can't integrate new technology to teach people in there best mediums. I can say this since I've never been that great at reading. But since I've been out of high school I've learned and read far more things in a much shorter time spands because it was knowledge I loved learning. Something most students don't figure out till they're half way through college if they're lucky. I think public education is broken and the internet is the best thing that has and can solve it. If you want a good example read the comments on a khan academy video. I've read people saying, "thank good for this! my teach couldn't explain this for crap." Don't get me wrong, I don't think we can replace the whole system with khan academy. But we definitely need a better feed back system that tells people what type of teaching styles can effectively teach the majority of students. That can also better accommodate for the students educational needs. For example instead of a student getting stuck with a bad teacher they get to pick from some of the best teachers in the world or country through the internet.

the craziest thing to me is that women seem to struggle a lot more with the content in these videos than men do from what i’ve seen. just basic information most people should know.

what’s scarier is when you combine that with the fact that most university students are now women. which means that the people who will be more likely to rise up the ranks of our institutions to run our country are people who can’t tell you who the first president was or how many inches are in 2 feet.

I tutor students fom 2nd grade to 9th. Mostly in math and a little english. A major issue in their learning is they always look for shortcuts. No care for even the basic understanding or mental challenge. Understanding math and solving problems is simply not cool. And nowadays as the media makes it seem like anyone can make money being an influencer the value for education is falling.
