Do all spring lever machines like the Londinium/profitec 800 have the "water hammer" effect you talk about?

This is the thing i love about classic lever espresso machines, it's like driving a tuned-up vintage Italian made car.. You don't need to worry abut charts and scales, it's just a pleasure to operate; like you're going on a Sunday drive down the Mediterranean coast.

I have an Odyssey Argos on pre-order. it should have a much shorter pre-heat time due to the much smaller boiler, but we'll see how it goes. i'm really looking forward to it.

Checked these out and kinda bummed about the tacked on fees of duty and shipping for Americans. The first doesn't need to exist, the second could be comp'd. Better machine if one is in the UK I guess. Also not too keen on that folded steel chassy. At the price, it's looking like a Profitec would be a better fit atm.....

Honestly the best machines are the ones that do not use apps...

How much is the r24?
. And how does it compare to the Cafelat Robot, w.r.t. the coffee in the cup?

It's a "9 bar" spring but the max pressure at the puck is 7.5 bar. That's also a big difference with the DE1 LR profiles as they are all set to 9 bars.

awesome video as always Brian.
How would you compare the shots made by the londinium R24 vs the Cremina ?? are they more similar in taste or different ? Thanks!

Have you thought about the fact that in a lever machine the amount of water is set , and limited and pressure is obtained via a piston -- whereas the decent compresses the slurry with extra water , that extra water might continue to dilute the shot

What is the pre infusion pressure? Doesn’t slamming the puck with the “water hammer” defeat the purpose of a gentle pre infusion that allows the puck to saturate before getting slammed?
Also curious of the ml/s flow into the cup during the raising of the lever (trying to replicate on the flair 58)

Have you considered that thick body was because the space between the coffee bed and ur shower screen on the R24 was closer, because we all have known by now that Decent has more clearance than other machines in term of that.

Londinium shot is unique (period). You nailed it right there when you said the LR24 compliment a Decent because you can never make a true LR shot with Decent.

Hmmmm.... Mine starts up a lot quicker, I set it to turn on at 6:30am, and it is ready to go by the time I finish brushing my teeth and wash my face. I am not sure if it is the voltage difference, we use 240 volts here in Australia, my machine heats up and is ready to rock in about 10-15 minutes.
