Left / Right has been replaced by State / Freedom. Lefties want a bigger states, more deep state, more deep trans-statism = IGOs, UNs, more state control over the economy, ... Lefties seem to also want more personal freedom, but I doubt that's a demand for more actual freedom; because real freedom involves accepting genuine responsibility too.

isn't Reem Ibrahim that girl who said that morocco is her homeland then acts upset online when people question her Britishness? It doesn't seem like she stands for anything apart from impotent , corrosive, free-market fetishism which fails to conserve anything, probably open borders as well which means in effect dissolving the nation. Libertarianism needs to take a back seat for a long while until we get this country under control again.

If they're merging local pension funds into a sovereign wealth fund, why not go all the way and create a mandatory provident fund? The liability already exists, so why not privatise and put it in the hands of the taxpayers who it is owed to.

The UK centre Right has just been the political wing of international finance capitalism and haven't conserved anything of our civilisation since 1945.

Bulkanisation is probably unstoppable at this stage.
Classical Liberalism has no solutions.

Steve Baker's point RE State Land Planning is spot on, but does he - or any other Conservative - really propose the alternative? A truly free housing market would mean a business man turning up at Farmer Gile's kitchen table at breakfast time, putting down a suitcase with £5,000,000 in cash and a contract to purchase one of his fields. And then by lunchtime the bulldozers are in the field. Clearly, clearly that is not going to happen. It used to be exactly like that in the Georgian-Victorian age. Nowadays though, the NIMBYs are most likely to be Tory voters and, effectively over planning, they are the socialists.

The problem for Baker is the Tory base will not be voting for the Conservative Party as long as it refuses to stop mass immigration and woke. As long as his party supports those things as, I and everyone I know, want to see the Tories disappear. We have Labour if we want a Blairite party. We see the Tories desire to continue with mass immigration and far left wokery, as treachery. Down with the lying Tories. They are redundant unless they are available to face charges for treachery when we finally wrest control of our nation from the Uniparty.

At least Labour are honest. The Tories are vile and unforgivable

What makes it different to vote for a party rather than an individual? This year is going to be worse than the last, no doubt about it. Due to poor investment decisions that I would not have made if I hadn't been so concerned about my portfolio, I lost a significant amount of money last year. I continued to invest, but I was undecided about whether to begin making house payments. I eventually sold my jobs, and the house required more work than I had anticipated. I don't know how long I can continue doing this; the entire American popularity contest concept is ridiculous.

Why is there no Reform UK representative on the panel? Yet, there is a representative of the Conservative Party who have spent the last 14 years being as socialist, anti-free market, and as big-state as you could possibly imagine. Steve Baker might try to distance himself from his Party but he was very much part of propping them up. Very hypocritical and has lost all credibility

Reform are not protectionist, Paul. Nigel Farage is a Thatcherite.
No-one's programme for government is more pro free markets and small state than Reform's.
Just because you don't like the idea of being on the same side as Nigel Farage doesn't make the IEA and Reform 'diametrically opposed'.

David Cameron positioned himself as conservative lite and had to go into coalition with the Lib Dems. Margeret Thatcher positioned herself as unashamedly right wing, and won a landslide. It is irrelevant who the MP's think would make a great leader, if they want to win at a general election they need right wing politicians promising right wing policies. Tom Tugendhat is very wet, has zero personality, and is a fun sponge.

This panel go a long way to explaining the Tory's utter defeat at the election... they are basically in favour of laisser-faire economics (and all the inevitable inequalities that that brings) yet are somewhat socially on the liberal left (i.e. are somewhat "Woke" etc).
In reality, your average centre-right voter is the exact opposite.
