Why The MCU is Falling Apart | Video Essay

The MCU is the movie version of Kingdom Hearts, I want to just enjoy the sequel like Iron Man 3 without needing to know I was supposed to watch another dozen movies first for the story the sequel expects me to know and wont bother explaining which results in a sudden shift of tone that makes no sense. It is downright alienating to anyone who isn't already invested so why bother starting now?

I actually reject the " quantity over quality" argument.
I maintain that they do not have quality, but they also do not really have quantity.
Most networks have dozens of shows running in a year. Usually with 15-25 episodes per season.
Disney MCU, on the other hand, floats less than half a dozen series per year, and those series each have , on average, a paltry 6-9 episodes.
Hell, The Shehulk series was what, 8 episodes, with each one a mere 20-23 minutes. And at least three of the episodes, 1/3 , were " filler episodes" with little done to advance the seasons plot.
Sure. They make a few movies each year, but, not really a large " quantity".
i would also disagree, fervently, that Taika Waititi " turned Thor into one of the best characters in the MCU with Thor:Ragnorok "

Maybe, just maybe, Thor begs for his friends or loved ones, but never on his own account.

Thor is funny because he is a fish out of water, with an outdated sense of honor . Not because he's a bro who quips and jokes with his enemies.

I think its so weird how much pandering the MCU does but in like the worst way possible? Like they're just using stereotypes but saying "Thats girl power!"
Like I dread the day a trans character is introduced into the MCU because I know how it'll go, there'll be the "UHGHHH MINORITIES ON SCREEN!!!!" and the equally annoying crowd who are defending terrible rep when they're not even the people who they're trying to pander towards and I know it'll be a stereotype that will do more harm then good

The MCU just feels like pandering and bad character writing which feels like it spawned this idea representation is inherently bad and it sucks because it means any time theres rep in anything its bashed for no real reason

Not to start anything, I'm here because I'm also disappointed in the MCU. But.... female characters have been dumbed down for the sake of male characters since the beginning of not only film but literature. I think men can handle one or two "bad" representations.

I had hope that Tony's daughter may be the next Iron Man (Iron Woman? XD). It would have made sense and it's only around what? 15 years for her to grow up? Maybe even less, considering Marvel makes teenage super heroes. That would have had potential, because emotional baggage is already there and she's a character that already had some screen time. It wouldn't have been artifical, but a natural progression. But no, Marvel istead gave us completely unknown characters nobody cares about :/

I 100% forgot there was a Black Widow movie until I watched this video

I've only seen clips of Love and Thunder and it looks like they wrote a comedy and then tossed superheroes in the mix. Also, She Hulk seemed more like a virtue signaling commercial...not a good show.

I left the MCU shortly after Endgame. Now, as I´m watching this video of yours, I´m absolutely confused. Wtf has happened? I can´t even say what is real and what might be just a comedy of your making (some of it is just comedy, isn´t it?). Phase 4 seems to be so mindbendingly stupid and bare of all subtance, that I find myself unable to get back into this. Another point is the terrible marketing by Disney, calling theire audience all kinds of -ist and -phobe for not wanting to watch the boring characters and bland stories they produced so rapidly. Sorry, no way back for me.

To me it's no shocker on why Marvel's falling apart they stop putting in the effort that they did ten years ago in replacement of effort they put in a lot of cringey s***awful CGI awful acting and awful writing and on a personal note I feel like they're just disingenuous I feel like their actions are based on a personal agenda or a certain message that's never conveyed subtly there was like a slap the face on what they're trying to get across

The problem is bad writing. Mb it has something to do with bad/not appropriate attitude towards writers and it will be solved after the end of the writers strike

Theres an old saying: "all good things must come to an end". Personally i think they should quit while they are ahead, as all they are doing is running the mcu into the ground slowly, with the audiences stuck watching the slow pathetic dying of something they/we loved. They cant equal it, and sure as hell not surpassing the past stages!

Phase 4: The Filler Saga

Phase 1 had 6 movies over the span of 4 years. They swung in quality from great (Iron Man) to pretty aight (First Avenger) to pretty shite (Hulk). But that was 4 years and 6 movies.

Phase 4 had, over the course of less than 3 years (since releases came in 2021), 9 shows and 9 movies, and I've only seen No-Way-Home, and I'm pretty sure I've seen everything worthwhile (GOTG3 is good apparently; haven't seen it yet, don't @ me).

The MCU has gone from being an ambitious project to being a media juggernaut filled with fun ideas, to just another of Disney's content factories. These movies and especially these Disney+ exclusive shows come out at an increasingly high rate because it theoretically makes money.

Yeah I've fully checked out, to me the MCU, Star Wars etc are dead.

I do hate how everyone discounts she hulk because she's "being a big cry baby"
no those are legitimate concerns and things women have to deal with FAR more then men do, so just kinda playing into that one by making that jab

But the bigger issue is that it detracts from why that is genuinely a bad story moment even if it is true because it tears down a beloved character to build up a new one "more then you"
it's the biggest problem with modern story writing, they tear down previously beloved characters to make their new ones seem more impressive and distance themselves away so they can introduce new and expecting us to accept it.
star wars did it, witcher did it. It's why fans are starting to get upset at hollywood, they piss on our loved things and expecting us to like it which just hurts any chance of new ever having a real chance except if it can catch a brand new audience while borrowing the old one to get the numbers rolling high enough to attract enough of the casual consumers, the favorite customers
they don't care about quality, they want their product to consume and spend money on. Passionate fans are difficult, and sure they produce long term longevity that's not profitable on the short term to investors

MCU's major problems stems from the facts that not only does it feel like there is little planning for an overarching story after Endgame but also that it has become extremely iconic and popular on the same level as Star Wars that made Disney and Marvel executives no longer giving a damn about putting in effort when they can just casually make money off of half-assed movies, which is what led to the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy being the poorly written mess it ended up as.

My only disappointment with Doctor Strange 2 is that it was Strange vs Wanda instead of Strange vs Mordo.

I wish there was a way for Marvel to pick up after going down so low. Maybe the Fantastic Four and the X-men will help them pick up but maybe not.

I hope the Mcu can do better again, too many jokes thrown in and they really need to do what they did from the beginning with its heroes the right way and written correctly and not favor one gender and make them better and overpowered while the other one acts weak and stupid they should treat both properly and equal like it was before the woke thing made most of the stuff out of balance, the important and smart thing to do is make them equally important and both be treated fairly and not overpowered so much.

Dumbing down the male characters to build the female characters is what got to me, because i could clearly see it when i watched love and thunder and tried to get through an episode of she hulk and then i saw her twerking with meg i just knew where mcu was going and i love the guardians of the galaxy but volume3 was so extremely mid compared to the first two i dont even care about the new marvel anymore.

We all saw this coming at End game, how do they replace Cap and Iron Man? Mcu got so big at the height of infinity saga, they couldn't have the patient to build another character like what they did with iron man and cap. When iron man and Cap movie first come out, people think they are good but no one think they would become as big as important as they become. Too big a shoe to fill.

as someone who is definitely "woke" myself and loves woman-centric stuff (seriously, even though I'm transmasc I'm all for female main characters), the MCU's problem isn't with the fact that they're "woke" or "too feminist", its that they are, for all intents and purposes, doing something i call "woman baiting", i.e., "look! we have a female character!" instead of writing an actually decent character. they make someone the "woke mob" would like, without actually making a *character*. its painfully clear that its a bit cheap, not genuine, and a grab for "political correctness", but it ends up deriving from storytelling.
I'm not saying this right, but the problem is not in the fact that its full of female characters, its that they're females, not characters, if that makes sense.

After 100 years of nonstop MAN HEROES, lets just be okay with things getting more interesting, ok? Compare and despair. Every comic book is not for you. No one collects every title. The same is true for Marvel videos. Stop complaining, create something with positive value. The internet is for more than complaining.

What's funny about this is that the MCU and Star Wars are both suffering, but because the MCU fans aren't as divided as the Star Wars fanbase, they keep churning out garbage after garbage while when it comes to Star Wars they haven't made a movie in years and are treading carefully when it comes to Star Wars cause the fan base literally blows up in their face.
